About The Role The primary purpose of the role is supporting the Chief Legal Officer to manage our internal legal, risk and governance obligations by:

- Ensuring our professional obligations and legal practice risks are understood, embedded and followed.
- Ensuring the complete and sound settlement of legal claims, legal reviews and investigations in accordance with the firm's policies and procedures.
- Ensuring that risks arising from contracts we enter into are identified and managed.
- Supporting the CLO with other discrete risk management and governance related responsibilities.

This role would be suitable for a 1-3 year PAE lawyer. Responsibilities Claims and Complaints Management

- In conjunction with the CLO, manage complaints and claims against the firm:
- Receive reports from fee earners and assist them to resolve:
- Complaints with PI liability potential.
- Incidents /near misses that flag areas for future audit, resources and training.

- Claims involving costs disputes
- Make recommendations for the firm to notify insurers and brokers for:
- Claims against the firm and/or its practitioner/s.
- Notifications of circumstances that may give rise to a claim.
- Maintain reports to facilitate evidence-based resource allocation for claims & complaints. Manage the register of any PI claims, legal practice complaints, incidents and near misses
- Report summary of key activities and status updates to the Risk Committee.

Contracts
- Develop systems (with the assistance of AI, as appropriate) to review and analyse contracts the firm is entering into, to identify and manage risk.




- Review our client's Legal Service Agreements from a risk, regulatory compliance and insurance perspective and advise the firm's Client Relationship Partners
- Review contracts with suppliers from a risk, regulatory compliance and insurance perspective and advise the firm's Business Services Groups
- Work with Partners and Business Services Groups to embed risk-aware procurement processes, central recording of supply contracts and effective supplier compliance monitoring

Communication
- Key firm contact for all matters relating to legal claims, risk management training, professional indemnity insurance, costs matters, conflicts, CPD compliance
- Professional Indemnity (PI) liaison. This includes but is not limited to:
- Seek guidance from Legal Practitioner's Liability Committee (LPLC) regarding issues as requested by management.
- Quarterly declarations from all partners (Jan, April, July and Oct).
- Assist Finance to send PI insurance certificates to Clients and partners to send clients.

About You

- A relevant business or administration degree, certificate, or diploma desirable but not essential.
- Tertiary qualification in law required and current Practising Certificate for a relevant jurisdiction advantageous.
- Experience in contract review and identification and analysis of risk issues arising from those contracts.
- 1-3 years experience practising as a qualified Australian lawyer.
- Adept at keeping up to date with the most current laws and best practice pertaining to risk and compliance.

- Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships,



particularly the ability to earn the confidence and trust of key stakeholders
- Strong influencing and negotiation capability

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent collaboration and teamwork capability
- Highly organised, able to plan and prioritise work to meet key deliverables
- Proven ability to facilitate presentations and meetings with varying sizes of groups of people
- The ability to question the status quo and offer practical solutions
