About the role Victoria Legal Aid are seeking an experienced senior lawyer to join the leadership team and provide strategic leadership and operational management of the Migration Program. You will manage and support a team of lawyers and contribute to the design and provision of high-quality legal services. In this role you will use your experience as a lawyer to represent clients in complex migration proceedings in the Federal Courts, with a focus on matters impacting asylum seekers, refugees and other marginalised migrants.
You will contribute to improved client outcomes through strong stakeholder engagement and the development of effective strategic advocacy and law reform initiatives, working closely with the Associate Director to design, implement and evaluate program objectives and co-design legal strategy which responds to emerging legal need.

- Experience in leading and managing a team, helping them grow and develop in a supportive team environment.
- Demonstrated capacity to work as a lawyer in complex civil law matters including substantial knowledge or practical experience in migration law and relevant court procedures.
- Experience in designing, planning, monitoring and evaluating services and initiatives and proven experience in working autonomously, meeting deadlines and making complex decisions in a timely way.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the capacity to influence and negotiate with people across all levels.
