Why join SUBCO

We build the infrastructure the internet actually runs on.

Most people don’t think about what happens when a video call connects Sydney to Singapore in under 100 milliseconds, or how a cloud file reaches a data centre on the other side of the world in the blink of an eye. The answer is almost always an undersea cable - and building those cables is exactly what SUBCO does.

We build, own and operate high-capacity submarine cable systems linking Australia to Asia, the Middle East, and beyond. The internet’s backbone isn’t in the cloud. It’s on the ocean floor - and we put it there.

You’ll work on things that matter at scale.

SUBCO is an Australian-owned scaleup at an inflection point. We’re not a startup finding its feet, and we’re not a slow-moving incumbent. We’re a fast-growing team of specialists doing infrastructure work that shapes how entire regions connect to the global digital economy.

About the role

You will join a small, high-performing global team responsible for 24x7 monitoring, incident response, and operational support of SUBCO’s international optical and IP networks.

Working within a rotating shift roster, you’ll monitor network performance, resolve incidents, manage stakeholder communications, automation and execute change activities to ensure service continuity across critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

- Proactively monitor all network infrastructure, including fibre systems, optical transmission, IP routers/switches, and environmental telemetry using tools like NCS, Observium, Environet and other tools like New Relic.
- Contribute to continual process improvement within the NOC by developing and implementing automations to reduce manual work, streamlining reporting, supporting enterprise-wide monitoring initiatives,

and carrying out routine administration tasks
- Triage and resolve network events and incidents in accordance with SLAs, escalating appropriately via Jira Service Management.
- Maintain accurate and timely updates within incident and change tickets, including explicit communication to internal stakeholders and external customers during outages or service degradations.
- Participate in the change management process, including peer review and execution of MOPs to support routine maintenance and network upgrades.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying incident trends, participating in post-incident reviews (PIRs), and helping evolve monitoring rules and automation alerts.
- Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, including runbooks, fault handling procedures, and change logs.
- Adhere to and contribute to operational KPIs such as Mean Time to Restore (MTTR), SLA compliance, and incident response targets.

About You

- Proven experience operating in a 24x7 NOC or network support function
- Proven ability to apply automation and continuous improvement practices to enhance day-to-day operations.
- Comfortable working across vendor platforms including Cisco, Ciena, Nokia, and Fortinet (routers, switches, firewalls)
- Skilled in network performance troubleshooting and event triage within complex global network environments
- Familiarity with Data Centre environments including rack management, power, and thermal considerations

- Understanding of security compliance and physical access control processes within telecommunications facilities
- Hands-on experience with service management systems (Jira Service Management or similar) across incident, change, and problem management workflows
- Working knowledge of ITIL v3 or v4 principles including Service Operations and Service Transition
- Eligible to obtain Baseline Security Clearance (existing clearance is desirable)
- Competent in executing and reviewing Method of Procedures (MOPs) for planned work and changes
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, and observability platforms such as NCS, Observium, Environet and other tools like New Relic.
- Clear and calm communicator with the ability to effectively manage customer expectations and internal escalations under pressure
- Strong documentation habits, including incident summaries, PIRs, and shift handover reports
- Self-motivated team player, adaptable to shift-based work and remote collaboration with global colleagues
