About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Occupational Therapist to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents of the Specialist Dementia Care Unit and aged care facility.
As our SDCP Occupational Therapist, you will play a central role in delivering evidence-based, person-centred therapeutic interventions that enhance wellbeing, dignity, and independence. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, you will design and implement programs that support sensory engagement, functional capacity, and quality of life.
You will also partner closely with families to help shape best-practice dementia care approaches, and contribute to a culture of excellence within our residential aged care community.
You will be supported by the Nurse Unit Manager, Director of Nursing and the wider supportive teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of cognitive, physical, emotional, and psychosocial functioning.
- Develop and implement tailored therapy plans promoting independence, meaningful engagement, and emotional wellbeing.
- Facilitate sensory‑based programs such as reminiscence therapy, Montessori‑inspired approaches, and sensory modulation.
- Collaborate with nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, lifestyle staff, and medical practitioners to provide holistic support.
- Support staff through training and mentoring in dementia‑specific communication and behaviour support.
- Partner with families to integrate personal history, preferences, and values into daily care.
- Monitor outcomes and contribute to continuous program improvement, documentation, and quality initiatives.
- Advocate for residents' rights, dignity, autonomy, and inclusion within mainstream aged care routines.
About You You are an empathetic, innovative OT who is passionate about dementia care and enhancing quality of life for older adults. You bring clinical expertise, creativity and a commitment to person-centred practice.
Essential Criteria:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational therapy.
- Current AHPRA registration.
- Experience in dementia care, ideally within residential aged care.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with residents, families, and staff.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to evidence‑based practice and continuous professional development.
- Values‑driven approach that prioritises dignity, empathy, and resident empowerment.
Highly Desirable:
- Experience in program development, evaluation, or quality improvement.
- Creative therapeutic program design skills.
- Resilience and adaptability when supporting individuals with complex care needs.
