Jasper Farms is one of Australia’s leading growers of avocados. Currently operating approximately 400 hectares of avocados between two orchards, plus a third site with a 200 ha orchard redevelopment. All three orchards are within close proximity of Busselton.

We are currently seeking an Orchard Manager, on a full-time basis, to join our experienced team. This role offers an inclusive work environment that is diverse and challenging. The successful candidate will become an essential component of a small but highly motivated team.

About the role

As the Orchard Manager, reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the Orchard team to ensure key business objectives and production goals are met, within safety guidelines. You will embed a culture of performance, innovation and continuous improvement whilst ensuring safety is at the centre of all decisions.

Your key responsibilities in this role will be to

- Oversee the orchard’s strategies and programs across areas such as People and Safety, Tree and Crop Management, Irrigation, pruning and Harvest activities and asset management to increase operational efficiencies and effectiveness.
- Ensure yield targets are met and quality is optimized using best Horticultural practices.
- In conjunction with the orchard team, develop, execute and maintain the irrigation systems and strategy for the orchard.
- Regularly review productivity of orchard operations and establish and maintain relevant controls and feedback systems to monitor the effective operation of the orchard.
- Lead a culture of continuous improvement through understanding key operational drivers to make productivity gains.
- Coach, mentor, and develop staff,



including overseeing recent employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities
- In conjunction with the General Manager, review and assist in developing your orchards operational and capex budgets.
- Acting as a role model by demonstrating precise and safe work behaviours and reinforcing policies and procedures.
- Ensure a thorough Contractor Management process is embedded and adhered to across the orchards.
- Develop, maintain, and promote positive and professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

About you We are seeking someone who has a passion for the horticulture industry with a track-record of operational leadership with a strong focus on safety and the development of teams. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and will have demonstrated a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role for a similar industry. You will be passionate about what you do and possess the following:

- A formal qualification in Agriculture / Agribusiness or related discipline, highly regarded
- Experience managing teams including employees, labour hire and contractors. The ability to mentor and coach is a necessity
- A strong focus on safety with a sound understanding of OHS legislation
- A high attention to detail in all aspects of orchard operations with experience working within both established and developing orchards




- Strong analytical skills and critical thinking skills to make sound and timely decisions and work effectively under tight deadlines. You will facilitate the development of practical solutions to improve business outcomes
- Strong organisational skills including document management
- Excellent time management, with the ability to prioritise and deliver in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to influence, coach and engage with stakeholders
- Proficient computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office
- A team player with a positive attitude to change and new challenges
- Experience in operating and maintaining a range of modern farming machinery
- Prior experience and/or a background in a corporate agricultural environment will be highly regarded
