Queensland South Native Title Services (QSNTS) is a Native Title Service Provider funded by the Federal Government to assist Traditional Owners in the pursuit of their native title aspirations by providing a comprehensive range of statutory services under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth).

About the role

Full time, permanent position based in Brisbane, reporting to the Lead Solicitor within the Legal Division.

As part of the QSNTS legal division and under the guidance of a qualified legal practitioner, you will assist in the delivery of a comprehensive and holistic legal service to progress and complete native title determination applications or compensation claims under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), support Traditional Owners to pursue their native title rights and interests, and support Prescribed Bodies Corporate to manage native title in the post-determination space.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

- Conducting research on case law and claim groups.
- Assisting with the preparation of legal documents, including native title determination and compensation applications, affidavits, interlocutory applications, submissions, reports, memoranda and briefs to external lawyers,



counsel and consultants.
- Filing and serving court documents, delivering and retrieving briefs to and from Barristers' chambers, and undertaking transcription duties.
- Drafting correspondence and newsletters, and preparing for and attending meetings, conferences, workshops and seminars, including taking minutes.
- Working with the Client Engagement Circle to identify and mitigate risks, applying project management methodologies to client management plans, and reporting on matter activity, progress and risks.
- Supporting and promoting the QSNTS Whole of Client / Whole of Organisation service delivery strategy and Strategic Plan objectives.
- Managing records and correspondence in line with QSNTS information management standards, and keeping matter information current in Monday.com and the QSNTS TraKS Database.
- Some weekend work is required.

About You

- Excellent attention to detail.
- Sound oral and written communication skills, and excellent telephone manner.
- Proficiency on a Windows platform and skills and experience using a range of software packages including the Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise competing tasks, with excellent time management skills.
- Demonstrated initiative,



self-motivation and the ability to meet competing deadlines.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- A current open driver's licence and willing and able to undertake regular travel throughout Queensland.
- A commitment to privacy, confidentiality, and working safely in accordance with QSNTS policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the cultural, political, economic, environmental and social issues affecting First Nations people would be advantageous.
- Previous experience in a paralegal role is desirable.
