Bidgerdii Community Health Services is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled primary health care service, operating in the Rockhampton and wider Central Queensland region for more than 30 years and our vision is for Healthy and Strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, children, families and communities – self – determining, culturally strong, and thriving in their own way.
Bidgerdii provides comprehensive primary healthcare and wellbeing services, collaborates with partner agencies for integrated continuity of care and advocates for health policy and health system reform. Our services include general practice bulk-billing clinics, social and emotional wellbeing and generalist counselling services, chronic disease management, preventative health screening, children and family health and early childhood education services.
About the Role:
The People and Culture Team Leader plays a pivotal leadership role in shaping a positive, and culturally protected and high-performing workplace at Bidgerdii Community Health Service. The position provides strategic direction across workforce culture, capability, wellbeing and people systems, ensuring staff are supported to deliver high-quality, community-controlled health services.
Working closely with the Executive and senior leaders, the People and Culture Team Leader translates organisational priorities and community values into practical people strategies that strengthen engagement, retention and leadership at all levels. The role has a strong focus on building workforce capability, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment pathways, and embedding respectful, values-led leadership practices across the organisation.
The position leads a small specialist team and provides trusted advice on workforce planning, recruitment, employee relations and people governance. It offers the opportunity to influence how people experience work at Bidgerdii, contribute to long-term organisational sustainability,
and make a meaningful impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Key Selection on Criteria:
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
·Senior experience in People & Culture / HR leadership within a complex organisation.
·Five years’ demonstrated experience in a Human Resources role managing a team.
·Tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Management, Work Health and Safety, or a related discipline.
·Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled principles.
·Demonstrated leadership in workforce strategy, IR, performance and culture Strong coaching, advisory and relationship management capability
·Experience in health, community services or ACCHO environments
Requirements:
·Immunisation requirements – It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A and Pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment.
·Current CPR and First Aid Certificate.
·Current Blue Card (Working with Children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card
·Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
·Satisfactory Police Criminal History Check
·Based in Rockhampton
·Willingness to attend occasional other sites of Bidgerdii, and community events outside standard business hours, if required.
