About the opportunity

Reporting directly to the Head Equine Unit, the Veterinary Registrar in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation position will form part of the Camden Equine Centre (CEC) within the UVTHC in providing equine sports medicine and rehabilitation services for the hospital. This position is designed to assist in developing and growing the equine unit’s referral practice, particularly performance horses, and participate in the clinical teaching of DVM students. This position is full time and covers some weekend and after-hours duty, following a rota with all clinicians within the equine unit for ambulatory work and inpatients.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

- provide a specialist level sports medicine service for primary accession, secondary and tertiary referral cases

- grow the client base by excellent client and referring practice communications and service

- oversee the supervision or postgraduate /clinical master students

- mentoring of junior clinical staff

- provide clinical instruction to DVM students in the areas of general and specialist practice

- co-ordinate and provide professional guidance to non-specialist equine clinicians in relation to cases.

- CEC is recognised as a centre of clinical excellence for equine sports medicine in Australasia and a leader in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of horses with sports related injuries and illnesses through innovative research in the field whilst training the veterinarians of the future.

About you

- a Veterinary Degree registrable in NSW

- postgraduate qualifications in sports medicine and rehabilitation





- more than 12 months experience following a residency program but have not yet achieved specialist status OR may have membership of the ANZCVS or similar post graduate level qualifications as well as additional advanced training excellent equine clinical skills

- an ability to develop referral and primary accession practice

- an ability to provide clinical instruction to postgraduate and DVM students

- a willingness to mentor junior clinical staff and provide clinical instruction to postgraduate and undergraduate students.
