Launceston

A rare permanent HR Advisor opportunity with a well-established Australian business, based in Launceston and supporting operational sites across the northern Tasmanian region. Reports to the General Manager, HR (Melbourne head office). A well-stocked HR team to collaborate with. Genuine site-based rhythm, not an office-bound seat.

About the opportunity

HeXTalent is partnering with a well-established Australian business currently going through a period of significant transformation, including within the HR function itself. The business operates a distributed, multi-site model with a field-based operational workforce and seasonal workforce peaks.

There is a GM HR at the top, a HR Business Partner, two HR Systems and Data specialists, dedicated Safety carried by another role in the team, and three Regional HR Advisors covering the different geographies. This role is one of those Regional HR Advisors, sitting in Launceston and covering the northern Tasmanian region.

We are running this as a confidential search. Happy to share the full business context and identity in a private conversation with suitable applicants.

The role

This is a broad generalist HR delivery role. Not a strategy seat. The value you add is by being close to the operational business, present on the ground with the people leaders, and reliably delivering the day-to-day HR that keeps a distributed workforce running well.

Key responsibility areas:

- Employee relations — trusted first port of call for site managers on performance conversations, conduct matters, grievances, disciplinary processes, and complex people situations. Coaching site leaders through the conversations they need to have.

- Recruitment and onboarding — end-to-end talent acquisition for the region, including seasonal workforce peaks. Job scoping, advertising, screening, interviewing, contracts, onboarding.

- Workforce planning support — practical, seasonal, close to the operating rhythm of the sites.

- HR policy, compliance and process — award interpretation, employment legislation application, policy rollout on the ground.

- Employee engagement and retention — culture initiatives, wellbeing, listening and reporting back into the wider HR function.

- Training coordination — delivery and support for regionally relevant learning activities.

- Being on the ground — regular, meaningful presence at the sites you support. Not weekly clockwork travel, but regular enough that you are a known face, and unexpected enough that you enjoy the variety.

The travel piece — this matters

Sites are spread across northern Tasmania, and travel from Launceston is typically 1 to 2 hours each way. Travel is not weekly or scheduled. It is sporadic and driven by what the business needs, but when it comes up we want the person in this seat to be genuinely glad about it. Not tolerant. Glad.

If the idea of putting the boots on, driving out into the region, meeting the workforce where they are, and coming back to the office energised by the day sounds like your kind of week, this role is going to fit. If the idea of driving two hours to a site is a chore you would want to minimise, this probably is not the seat for you.

About you

Essential:

- Proven experience in a generalist HR Advisor or similar role

- Strong employee relations capability — comfortable running the day-to-day ER of a distributed workforce with appropriate escalation

- End-to-end recruitment experience

- Sound understanding of contemporary HR practices and employment legislation

- Confident communicator across all levels, from site-based operational workforce through to senior operational leaders

- Full driver's licence and genuine willingness to spend regular time on the road

- Solid organisational skills — able to hold multiple threads across a distributed region

Highly regarded:

- Experience in a multi-site, distributed operational business

- Exposure to a field-based, primary industries, or operational workforce environment

- Award interpretation across operational and seasonal workforces

- Experience in a business going through active change or HR function build-out

Cultural signals we are looking for:

- Genuinely enjoys being on-site. You would rather spend Tuesday at a site meeting people where they work than at your desk. If that is you, this role is going to feed that energy.

- Boots-on-the-ground curiosity. Interested in how the business actually operates, willing to learn the operational context deeply.

- Adaptive and collaborative in a changing HR function. The HR team is deliberately in build mode. Ideas welcome. Rigidity, less welcome.

- Comfortable with pace and irregular travel patterns. Sporadic, not clockwork.

- Delivery-first mindset. This is an HR delivery role, not a strategy role. The satisfaction comes from things being done well and people being supported well.

What is on offer

- Base salary $110,000–$120,000 + super

- Permanent, full-time role

- Genuine autonomy across the northern Tasmanian region, with strong support from a well-stocked HR team

- Direct reporting line to the GM HR

- Dedicated Safety role in the team — this is a pure HR seat

- A business in an active period of transformation, including within HR itself. Real chance to help shape how the function operates

- The kind of role where getting in the car for a couple of hours is a positive part of your week, not a negative

The process

The interview process:

1. Confidential screening and vetting with HeXTalent

2. First interview with the GM HR (virtual from Melbourne)

3. Second interview in Launceston with the GM HR and a senior operational stakeholder, including a site visit

4. References and pre-employment checks managed by HeXTalent
