About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Payroll Operations Manager, this Payroll Officer position is a central operational role within a dedicated and established payroll team. Designed for a hands-on payroll practitioner, this role offers end-to-end accountability across large-scale fortnightly pay runs, master data maintenance, and award interpretation.
You will step into a pivotal environment as the organisation actively transitions its core payroll systems to Dayforce. Working alongside the team you will manage day-to-day processing, navigate complex retail edge cases, and assist in embedding standardized workflows to support ongoing business growth.
What You'll Do
- Executing end-to-end processing of fortnightly payrolls and off-cycle payments for assigned pay run groups in compliance with company timelines
- Interpreting relevant employment frameworks, including the General Retail Industry Award (GRIA) and associated enterprise agreements
- Maintaining employee master data across new hires, position changes, part-time roster variations, and terminations
- Supporting the live system transition from legacy platforms to Dayforce, helping refine operational data mappings and process documentation
- Managing end-to-end processing for superannuation lodgements, long service leave, workers' compensation, and Paid Parental Leave
- Triaging first-level pay queries from store and distribution teams via the payroll inbox, delivering prompt and patient resolution
- Preparing ad hoc reporting for HR and Finance, including leave registers and reconciliation analysis
- Collaborating with team members to maintain audit trails and ensure strict compliance with internal control policies
What You'll Bring
We are seeking a patient, detail-oriented payroll skilled who brings a calm, adaptable approach to dynamic, system-transition environments. You possess strong analytical capabilities and take pride in delivering accurate, timely outcomes for end-to-end workforce operations.
In addition, you will bring:
- Proven hands-on experience in a standalone or end-to-end Payroll Officer capacity within medium-to-large organisations
- Hands-on experience using Dayforce, Preceda or similar payroll systems
- Sound working knowledge of modern awards, particularly the General Retail Industry Award (GRIA) would be an advantage
- Practical understanding of statutory leave liabilities, superannuation guarantee, and ATO compliance
- Excellent communication skills with a track record of handling internal queries patiently and professionally
