This is a permanent part time position as a Registered Nurse in a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice in Canberra, working one day per week. The role combines surgical assisting, patient care and postoperative follow-up, working closely with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and clinical team in a specialist surgical environment outside the traditional hospital setting.
Key responsibilities
- Assisting the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon during surgical procedures
- Preparing patients for minor oral surgical procedures
- Setting up surgical rooms, instruments and equipment
- Maintaining sterile fields and assisting with sterile surgical technique
- Assisting with procedures performed under local anaesthesia
- Supporting patients before, during and following procedures
- Providing postoperative care and instructions
- Conducting postoperative telephone calls to patients following surgery
- Assessing patients' postoperative progress and identifying any concerns requiring review by the surgeon
- Providing reassurance and appropriate postoperative advice within established clinical protocols
About you
- Holds current Registered Nurse registration with AHPRA
- Confident working in a procedural or surgical environment
- Excellent patient communication skills, including telephone-based postoperative care
- Comfortable assessing postoperative symptoms and escalating concerns appropriately
- Calm, organised and attentive during surgical procedures
- Demonstrates a high standard of infection control and patient safety
- Compassionate and confident when caring for anxious surgical patients
- Reliable, punctual and attentive to detail
- Works well within a small, close-knit clinical team
- Looking for a consistent one-day-per-week permanent position
