About the role

We design buildings in Australia, manufacture them offshore and deliver them complete. Our drawings get built exactly as issued, several hundred times, by people we never meet and who cannot walk over and ask a question. This changes what documentation is. Precision counts for more than variety, and a detail that is nearly right is not one problem, it is three hundred.

We are looking for a project architect to take this on properly. Offsite construction is the part of Australian building the federal government is actively clearing a path for, which is why this position exists now rather than in two years.

Key responsibilities

- Own the construction details and the standard set behind them

- Produce the build package for each product, finished before production starts rather than during it

- Brief engineering consultants and hold them to a programme rather than wait on them

- Author and maintain the manual the factory builds from

- Handle design issues coming back from the factory and from site

- Travel to the factory floor a few times a year to watch your own details being built

- Tell the Design Director when a brief is not positive enough to draw from

- Work mostly in Revit, uninterrupted, with no client presentations

About you

- Revit fluency on day one

- Contractor-side experience on design and construct, or documentation produced for a builder rather than for an approval

- Five or more years documenting in Australia

- Experience briefing consultants and holding them to a programme

- Working knowledge of the NCC and relevant Australian Standards

- Documenting for a factory rather than a site is a strong plus, not a requirement. Prefabricated,



modular, facade and shop drawing backgrounds all count

- Registration supported if you are working toward it

- You have moved from producing documentation into coordinating people who do

- You would issue a package you knew was unresolved because the date had been promised

Where you need to be

Based in Southport. If you are elsewhere you are welcome to apply, we would just ask that the move and the travel to interview are your own arrangement. First conversations are by video.

How we hire

Your written answers, a technical conversation with our Design Director, a paid half day producing a real detail, then reference calls. We would rather leave this open than fill it badly.

3. You have been asked to issue a package by Friday and one part is not resolved. What do you do, and what do you say to the person who asked?

4. Tell us about a time a builder told you your detail could not be built. What happened?

5. Pick one sheet in your portfolio. What would you change about it now, and why?
