This opportunity sits within the organisation's corporate finance function and forms part of a specialist Financial Accounting Team responsible for high-quality financial reporting, statutory compliance and audit support.
About the Role
This is an opportunity for an experienced Principal Financial Accountant to join a specialist Financial Accounting Team within a large and complex organisation.
The role has a strong technical accounting focus and will take a lead role in the preparation and delivery of annual statutory financial statements, ensuring reporting is accurate, complete and compliant with Australian Accounting Standards, relevant financial reporting requirements and legislation.
You will also play an important role in coordinating external audit activity across planning, interim, hard-close and end-of-financial-year periods.
Beyond year-end reporting, you will contribute to monthly financial reporting, key month-end journals and reconciliations, while providing technical accounting advice on emerging standards, regulatory changes and complex financial matters.
This includes preparing position papers, formal responses, briefings and financial information for senior stakeholders.
Working closely with the Manager, Financial Accounting, you will also support the day-to-day operation of the team, help resolve complex accounting issues, coach other team members and contribute to the ongoing development of financial policies, procedures and reporting practices.
This is a temporary contract position through to February ****, based in Brisbane, CBD.
Responsibilities
Lead annual financial statements
Coordinate external audit requirements
Deliver monthly financial reporting
Prepare journals and reconciliations
Provide technical accounting advice




Interpret accounting standards and legislation
Develop financial policies and procedures
Prepare briefings and position papers
Coach and support team members
Support Financial Accounting Manager
The position will also work closely with finance teams and senior stakeholders to resolve complex financial accounting matters and ensure reporting remains compliant with relevant requirements.
Skills and Experience Required
Extensive financial accounting experience
Solid statutory reporting experience
Annual financial statement preparation
Lead and movement schedules
Complex reconciliations and disclosures
Australian Accounting Standards knowledge
Strong technical accounting capability
Excellent stakeholder communication skills
Experience with Queensland Government financial reporting requirements and processes is highly desirable.
Accounting qualifications and membership of CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand or IPA are also highly desirable.
