Cathedral College Wangaratta welcomes applications for a versatile and vibrant Music teacher to work in the Performing Arts Faculty. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of staff who play a significant role in planning, delivering and reflecting on the Performing Arts across the School. This is a part time position commencing January ****.
Key Responsibilities
Teach skills in music understanding/appreciation, harmony, explorations in music and choral music to students.
Plan/execute a balanced music program and organise class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each student. Encourage students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
Utilise repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Make minor adjustments and request repairs to instruments as required.
Evaluate each student's musical growth, performance, and musical understanding. Assess each individual's contribution to the performance of the group.
Have a proven ability to lead Choirs, Ensembles and Bands.
Be passionate / willing to work as part of a vibrant team in the staging of musical events including the annual House Music, School Musical Productions and Community Concerts. Assist in the planning,



programming and all production requirements as required by the Teaching and Learning Leader – Performing Arts.
Organise Music and Performing Arts incursions, workshops and other music-based performances, some of which may occur after school hours.
Select appropriate music, books and instructional aids to enhance learning and requisition musical instruments and instructional supplies in collaboration with the Head of Music.
Cooperate with Principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, school events, parent meetings and seasonal programs.
Develop teaching programmes and assessments that comply with the Australian curriculum requirements, registration and accreditation requirements.
Teach classes as allocated and in a way appropriate to the needs of each student.
Encourage and ensure holistic development and academic excellence for each child.
Provide positive reinforcement and appropriate and timely feedback to students.
Create and maintain safe and challenging learning environments through the use of classroom management skills.
Attend staff meetings, faculty meetings and skilled learning days as scheduled.
Participate in arranged interactions, such as Parent Teacher interviews and Information Evenings.
Undertake such other duties as directed by the Teaching and Learning Leader – Performing Arts and Principal.
