Our client, a listed multi-national resources company, is looking to hire another senior lawyer for its Australian legal team.

Reporting to a highly-regarded Head of Legal, this role will be responsible for overseeing the legal, regulatory, and commercial side of our client’s business in Australia.

Key responsibilities
Advising the CEO and Board on legal and regulatory matters relating to the company's Australian operations
Taking the lead on complex negotiations with various partners, governmental authorities, and industry bodies
Ensuring compliance with the company’s legal and regulatory obligations, including with respect to Australian environmental standards
Identifying prospects for the business and providing strategic commercial guidance to the business
Improving internal processes in relation to contracting, procurement, and risk management to increase operational efficiency and mitigate risk
Managing disputes
Ensure that the company has appropriate WHS policies and procedures to protect our workforce
Supporting the ESG team,



encompassing sustainability, decarbonisation, stakeholder engagement and diversity and inclusion

Essential criteria

Qualifications and experience
Law degree and admission to practice in an Australian jurisdiction with a current, unrestricted practicing certificate (or eligibility to apply for one immediately)
Minimum of 7 years’ post-admission experience within the mining and resources sector gained in a leading law firm and/ or in-house legal team

Personal attributes
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to engage effectively at all levels
Leadership skills and the ability to manage and influence stakeholders
Robust commercial and financial acumen

Desirable experience
Demonstrated track record in a commercial management role in the resources sector
