Currently, we are seeking skilled and motivated
Commissioning Engineers
and
Commissioning Testers
to become part of their growing team in Melbourne. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in groundbreaking renewable energy projects and HV substations, all while contributing to a cleaner, greener future.
Responsibilities n
As a Commissioning Engineer or Tester for our client, you will:
n
n
Lead and oversee end-to-end commissioning activities for HV substations, utility-scale solar, wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.
n
Develop and execute commissioning plans, schedules, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) documentation.
n
Conduct protection testing, including distance, differential, and circuit breaker management using tools such as Omicron or Doble.
n
Perform primary plant testing, including circuit breakers, current transformers (CTs), capacitor voltage transformers (CVTs), and transformers.
n
Validate SCADA and control systems to ensure proper integration and functionality.
n
Work closely with internal engineering teams, project teams, clients, Transmission Network Service Providers (TNSPs), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
n
Provide input into upfront engineering, detailed design development, and commissioning planning.
n
Qualifications n
The ideal candidate will bring the following qualifications and experience:
Essential: n
n
A degree in Electrical Engineering or an Advanced Diploma in Power Systems.
n
Roughly 3+ years of hands-on experience in substation and/or renewable energy commissioning.
n
Comprehensive knowledge of power systems, protection, and control.
n
VESI authorisations and practical experience in Australia.
n
Hands-On Experience: n
n
Demonstrated success in overseeing and completing commissioning of HV substations or renewable energy projects.
n
Skilled in developing commissioning plans, schedules, FAT, and SAT documentation.
n
Proficient in protection testing with tools such as Omicron or Doble.
n
Experience with primary plant testing, including circuit breakers, CTs, CVTs, and transformers.
n
Familiarity with SCADA and control systems testing procedures.
n
Desirable: n
n
Hold testing authorisations with entities like AusNet, Transgrid, ElectraNet, or Powerlink.
n
Membership with Engineers Australia or in the process of obtaining it.
n
Solid understanding of secondary and protection designs.
n
Personal Attributes: n
n
Strong verbal and written communication skills for both on-site interactions and well-documented reports.
n
Ability to collaborate effectively within diverse project teams.
n
Exceptional problem-solving skills paired with a solution-oriented mindset.
n
Day-to-Day Responsibilities n
A typical day in this role could include:

Reviewing and refining detailed commissioning plans and project schedules.
n
Conducting on-site performance testing and troubleshooting for HV substations and renewable energy assets.
n
Collaborating closely with project stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery.
n
Preparing precise and comprehensive reports on testing and commissioning operations.
n
Traveling to project sites across Australia as required.
