Job Description

NSW Farmers is looking for a Policy Director to lead priority policy issues and deliver measurable outcomes for members and rural communities across the state.

About the role
n
As the Policy Director, you will lead the development, prioritisation and advocacy of policy issues within your portfolio. Working closely with Policy Committees, members and colleagues, you will maintain a explicit and prioritised work program, develop and deliver advocacy plans, coordinate organisational activity and represent NSW Farmers with government, industry and other stakeholders. You will also lead and support a small policy team, helping strengthen member value and the influence of NSW Farmers.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Lead research, analysis and drafting of recommendations for industry policy.
n
Work with Policy Committees and Taskforces to establish policy positions and progress agreed priorities.
n
Develop and manage relationships with government, industry and non-government stakeholders to advance NSW Farmers policy priorities.
n
Develop and monitor advocacy and policy action plans, including objectives, stakeholder engagement strategies and measures of progress.
n




Oversee briefing notes, submissions, discussion papers and member communications on priority policy issues.
n
Represent NSW Farmers at public forums and stakeholder meetings, and provide strategic policy advice to the Executive, Board, Committees and relevant external stakeholders.

Lead, coach and support team members while championing a positive, inclusive and high-performing culture.

About You
n
To excel in this role, you will have:
n
n
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Business, Agribusiness or Law; postgraduate qualifications are desirable.
n
Demonstrated experience in policy development, strategic planning and analysis, including working with government and contributing to legislative development or reform.
n
A strong understanding of agriculture, agribusiness and the role of NSW Farmers.
n
Highly effective research, analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with the professionalism to represent NSW Farmers with senior stakeholders and media.
n
Proven capability in managing and influencing complex stakeholder relationships, together with experience leading and supporting a team.
n
