Job Purpose
n The Core Integration Engineer will be responsible for the successful design, integration, testing, commissioning and delivery of a world first 5G Future Rail Mobile Communications System (FRMCS) network into operational use.
n
The role will present persistent challenges and opportunities to find cutting-edge solutions at pace. They will be part of a team working hard to generate an effective design based upon a 5G MNO derived core and contemporary mission critical applications.
n
The role will demand a blend of hard and soft skills to ensure successful integration of complex subsystems and prove the design can support the next generation of automated train control systems.
n
Key Responsibilities
n Design and implement FRMCS core for rail operations.
n Develop system architecture for FRMCS
n Produce high and low-level design documentation.
n Develop interface specifications and integration designs including:
Telco hybrid 5G core
Mission Critical data platform
Cybersecurity platform
Network monitoring systems
Archiving
Virtualisation and containerised architectures
n Support technology refresh and network modernisation initiatives.
n Configure and integrate mission critical applications and core network components.
n Develop test plans, SIT, SAT, integration and commissioning test procedures.
n Perform system validation and acceptance testing.
n Support field trials and operational readiness testing.
n Manage software upgrades, patches and platform release procedures
n Transition to operational readiness / develop O&M; policies and procedures
n Collaborate with operations, signalling, rolling stock and telecommunications teams.
n Engage with technology vendors, system integrators and maintenance partners.

Qualifications
n Degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline.
n Relevant industry certifications desirable:
n LTE/5G Certifications
n Virtualisation (containers, Kubernetes etc)
n Project management
n ITIL Foundation
n Cybersecurity
n
Experience with Telco (5G) core network technologies.
n Strong understanding of IP networking principles.
n Experience with SIP, VoIP and similar UC technologies.
n Experience with virtualisation environments
n
