Melbourne | Full-time | Onsite | $95,*********,000 + 12% super There are venue roles where the job is to keep things moving.
This is not one of them.
We're partnering with a well-known and prestigious Melbourne organisation to find an experienced Venue Manager who can take real ownership of a high-profile venue and help unlock what it could become.
This person will be responsible for both the commercial and operational performance of the venue.
That means driving venue hire, building new revenue opportunities, improving utilisation, overseeing events, managing key supplier and hospitality relationships, leading a small team and making sure the entire customer experience works properly from the first conversation through to delivery.
This is a hands-on role, but it is also a commercially important one.
We need someone who understands how venues make money, how to build relationships that turn into business, and how to deliver events so well that people want to come back.
What you'll be accountable for You'll take ownership of venue revenue, utilisation and commercial performance, including developing new opportunities across venue hire, events and hospitality.
You'll actively build relationships with prospective clients and existing partners, conduct venue tours, identify new markets, respond to opportunities and help shape pricing and commercial arrangements.
You'll also be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of events.
That means bringing together internal teams, clients, suppliers, catering, technical requirements, security, AV, lighting and venue operations to make sure the event runs exactly as it should.
You'll contribute to revenue targets, budgets, forecasting, pricing and commercial decision-making, while looking for smarter ways to use the venue, particularly during quieter periods.
You'll lead a small team and work across multiple internal functions, so you'll need to be comfortable creating clarity, holding people accountable and making sure everyone knows what needs to happen and when.
The experience you'll bring We're looking for someone with strong experience across venue management, hotels, hospitality, events, conferencing or another complex customer-facing environment .
You'll already know what excellent event delivery looks like because you've done it before.
You'll have experience managing clients, suppliers, event logistics, budgets and competing operational priorities, and you'll be comfortable working across multiple teams to bring everything together.
You'll also bring genuine commercial capability.
You'll understand venue sales, pricing, utilisation, revenue opportunities and how to build relationships that become repeat business.
People leadership experience is important too.
You'll have led teams, set expectations and created a strong standard of delivery.
Ideally, you'll be able to point to examples where you have: grown venue or event revenue improved venue utilisation developed new business opportunities delivered complex events end to end managed senior or high-value clients worked across hospitality, operations and commercial teams improved customer experience or operational standards led teams in busy, high-pressure environments.
Ideally, you'll come from a premium hotel, hospitality group, event venue, conference centre,
cultural institution or another environment where service, events and commercial performance all matter.
The way you work You'll be meticulous about detail, but not because someone has handed you a checklist.
You'll notice things.
You'll notice what is missing from the run sheet, where a client may be hesitating, who needs following up, what might go wrong and where there is an opportunity sitting in plain sight.
You'll be an exceptional listener.
You'll remember faces, conversations and details people mentioned months ago, then connect those dots later to make something happen.
You might remember that a client mentioned an upcoming board dinner and realise the venue could be perfect for it.
Or that a partner was looking for a launch space and there is an prospect to bring the two together.
You won't wait for someone to tell you what needs doing next.
You'll already be on it.
And because you've worked in complex venues or event environments before, that instinct will be backed by experience, judgement and commercial understanding.
We're not looking for someone who is simply charismatic or good with people.
We're looking for someone with credible venue, hospitality or events experience who also has the commercial instinct, attention to detail and relationship intelligence to make the whole operation better .
Why this role is interesting There is genuine chance here.
This is a venue with more commercial potential to unlock, and the person coming into this role will have the chance to shape how that happens.
You'll be able to build new markets, improve utilisation, create stronger relationships, lift event delivery and have a visible impact on commercial performance.
If you're someone who walks into a venue and immediately starts seeing what it could become, we'd love to talk.
