We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a Heavy Civil Construction Project in Cooma, NSW.
-Location: Cooma, NSW (100% On-site).
-Estimated Duration: Initial 1-year contract, with the possibility of at least one additional year based on performance .
In general, when the project ends, we try to relocate the employee to other projects to ensure continuity.
-Summary: The Mechanical Engineer will undertake the main constructor-side technical review, verification and multidisciplinary coordination of engineering submissions prepared by the appointed specialist subcontractors for the permanent water supply systems and Power Station Complex (PSC) lifts.
The principal focus is detailed engineering, calculations, technical reports, interface documentation and shop drawings, ensuring they are complete, coordinated and compliant with the Employer Requirements (ERs), approved design, applicable specifications, Scope of Works and standards.
This is an engineering-assurance and design-review role, not a subcontractor design-production, procurement or construction-management position.
-Packages covered: Permanent water supply and treatment systems : Raw and potable water treatment and distribution across the PSC, surface buildings, pad areas and dry tunnels, including equipment, piping, controls and interfaces.
PSC VHTS/Lifts System : Four lifts serving Service Building 1, Machine Hall Unit 3, Machine Hall Unit 5 and Service Building 2, including mechanical equipment, vertical transportation systems and interfaces.
-Responsibilities: Review detailed engineering and shop drawings against SOWs, ERs, design drawings, specifications, procedures and standards.
Assess completeness and consistency of layouts, schematics, sections, installation details, calculations, reports, schedules and KKS coding.
Verify interfaces with civil, structural, architectural, electrical, fire, hydraulic, controls, communications and SCADA disciplines.
Coordinate BIM reviews covering space requirements, access, penetrations, supports, routing and clashes.
Issue and track technical comments, review responses and close out items to No Objection status.
Review RFIs, technical queries,



interface documents and proposed design changes; escalate unresolved issues as required.
Monitor submission status, priorities, registers and outstanding comments; identify risks and programme impacts.
Review material data sheets, maintenance strategies, Safety in Design records and testing/commissioning plans where assigned.
Participate in technical workshops and interface meetings with subcontractors and constructor stakeholders.
-Package-specific technical review -Permanent water supply and treatment Review system architecture, reticulation routes, piping layouts, materials, ratings, valves, supports, penetrations and interfaces.
Review hydraulic calculations, pump selection, system capacity and operating requirements.
Verify integration of tanks, treatment units, pumps, instruments and ancillary equipment, including interfaces from EL700 tanks to MAT, GIS and ECVT facilities.
Assess equipment layouts, maintainability, accessibility, connections, instrumentation and SCADA interfaces.
Review BIM shop drawings, design changes, asset data, RAM inputs and handover documentation.

PSC lifts Review lift arrangements and shop drawings, including shafts, pits, headroom, clearances, access and equipment layouts.
Assess loads, speeds, travel, car/landing arrangements, guides, supports, anchors and lifting interfaces against approved requirements.
Coordinate interfaces with civil, structural, architectural, electrical, control, communications, access control, fire alarm and emergency systems.
Review safety devices, emergency modes, maintenance access, and compliance documentation.
Verify consistency of vendor drawings, BIM models, calculations, interface requirements, and review comments.
Requirements: -Requirements: A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical/hydraulic building services, industrial water systems, or major infrastructure engineering, with demonstrated capability to review contractor and vendor shop drawings.
Desirable experience in hydropower, underground facilities,



tunnels or similarly complex multidisciplinary projects.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant qualification.
Ability to critically review mechanical engineering calculations, equipment schedules, layouts, technical reports, drawings and multidisciplinary interfaces.
Practical understanding of water reticulation, pumps, treatment equipment, piping/valves, equipment access and mechanical installation constraints from a design-review perspective.
Ability to interpret technical specifications, contractual design requirements, Australian standards and controlled design documents.
Proficiency in reviewing AutoCAD drawings and Revit/BIM models, and strong technical writing, coordination and issue-tracking skills.
Previous technical-review experience with lift/vertical transportation systems and specialist lift vendors.
Experience with water treatment and potable water systems, including controls and SCADA integration.
Familiarity with Aconex/controlled design submissions, CRS/ERS review cycles and Safety in Design processes.
