Job description About the Role Are you a high-level Environmental Specialist seeking to shape enterprise environmental governance?
A prominent QLD State Government Department is seeking a Senior Environment Specialist to lead the technical design, development, and implementation of its modernised Environmental Management System (EMS).
Working as part of a broader environmental uplift programme, you will provide authoritative specialist advice and drive consistent environmental standards across large-scale planning, construction, maintenance, and disaster response operations.
Key Responsibilities Lead technical workstreams to design, establish, and embed an enterprise-wide Environmental Management System aligned with ISO ***** principles.
Draft comprehensive environmental frameworks, policies, standards, procedures, and operational controls tailored to operational requirements.
Interpret legislative obligations, conduct environmental risk assessments, and establish robust compliance assurance processes.
Provide expert advice to internal teams, executive stakeholders, and project managers to support organisational change and capability building.
Oversee environmental auditing, data management, and training materials to ensure long-term sustainability and operational compliance.
About You To be successful in this role, you will bring substantial technical expertise alongside solid policy and documentation capabilities: A recognised degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, or a closely related discipline.
Proven track record designing, developing, and implementing Environmental Management Systems within complex organisations.
Deep understanding of environmental legislation, risk management frameworks, and best-practice governance principles.
Exceptional report writing and analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical operational processes.
Prior experience within public sector, construction, infrastructure, facilities management, or asset-intensive environments.
