The team
ASIC's Markets Group safeguards trust and confidence in Australia's financial markets.
The Group oversees the full regulatory lifecycle, licensing, supervision, investigation and enforcement - working to detect, prevent and deter market misconduct and promote market integrity and resilience.
The new Market Systems team has been established to provide a single, system‐wide lens across public and private markets, enabling whole‐of‐ASIC risk coordination, stronger market design outcomes assessed holistically, earlier detection of emerging risks across asset classes and interconnections, and clearer visibility of risk build‐up such as leverage and concentration that can inform stress and supervisory responses.
This team is to support and connect with other functions including supervision, surveillance, enforcement and policy in Markets and across ASIC.
The role
As the Senior Specialist of the System Risk function in Markets, your role will be to support the Senior Manager with the performance of a multidisciplinary team to systematically assess and monitor system risks across public and private markets, including private equity, private credit and OTC derivatives, with a focus on interconnections and contagion.
You will exercise strong regulatory judgement,
engage with senior stakeholders, and drive timely identification and escalation of risks and assessment of intervention options to address systems risk.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading projects that relate to a market wide risk and assist with horizon scanning to identify emerging or systemic risks across both public and private markets
* Undertake risk assessments in line with agreed risk frameworks to codify, compare and escalate risks.
* Develop analysis and insights to identify points of contagion and through collaboration with other stakeholders identify intervention options
* Over time, develop coordinated stress scenarios across markets and participants.
* Model impacts of identified risks and potential intervention option impacts to information regulatory action, and contribute to its development and finalisation
* Coordinate cross-market work on an ongoing basis, including the intersection of markets, super, funds management, governance.
* Lead research and policy analysis, including guidance, discussion and policy papers.
* Act as a senior point of engagement with key internal, domestic and international stakeholders
* Support the Senior Manager in building team capability
About you
You are a confident and experienced leader with strong regulatory judgement and the ability to operate effectively in complex, high‐pressure environments.
You bring a strategic, risk‐focused mindset and can translate analysis into clear expectations and outcomes.
You will also demonstrate:
* Senior leadership experience in a regulatory,
financial services, markets or related environment
* Strong analytical, problem‐solving and capability and ability to draw on data to make evidence-based decisions
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
* Experience leading teams, setting direction and building capability in complex settings
* Experience assessing emerging and system risk, ideally in a financial markets context
* Ability to work in a cross-functional teams to deliver the responsibilities of the role
