About the Team:
The team is experienced, supportive and collaborative, working together on complex compliance and enforcement matters. The fast-paced environment encourages information sharing and sound decision-making, with a strong focus on continuous improvement, identifying trends and improving regulatory practices.
About the Role:
The role offers opportunities to lead improvement work, develop guidance and tools, and influence how regulatory practice is operationalised across the Regulatory Authority. The role provides opportunities to develop staff through coaching, quality assurance and practical involvement in complex matters.
There is genuine scope to contribute ideas and improve how we work, including through better use of data, technology and risk-based approaches.
The work provides exposure to complex matters and decisions that can have significant implications for children, services, approved providers and the broader ECEC sector.
About You:
This role would suit someone who enjoys complex problem-solving and wants to make a practical contribution to improving the safety, health and wellbeing of children.
The following skills, knowledge, experience and attributes are considered highly desirable:
- A calm and practical leader who can support staff through complex,
sensitive and high-risk regulatory matters.
- Sound judgement and the confidence to make decisions when the information may be complex, incomplete or contested.
- A strong sense of accountability, with a focus on quality, consistency and defensible regulatory decision-making.
- A collaborative leadership style that builds trust, encourages people to take ownership and develops capability within the team.
- The ability to see the bigger picture, identify emerging risks and priorities, and adjust the team's focus when circumstances change.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing a team responsible for complex regulatory, compliance investigations or similar work.
- Strong decision-making skills, including the ability to interpret legislation, assess evidence and risk, and provide clear recommendations and advice.
- Experience managing complex or escalated matters and achieving practical outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and quality assure decision records, briefs, correspondence and other regulatory documents.
- Experience managing competing priorities, allocating resources and maintaining the quality and timeliness of work in a busy operational environment.
