About the Opportunity n
A specialist grid-connection advisory firm is seeking an experienced Senior, Principal or Lead Power Systems Engineer to play a key role in delivering complex renewable energy projects across Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM).
n
This is a high-impact position working on utility-scale solar, wind and battery energy storage (BESS) projects , where you will lead grid connection strategies, power system studies and stakeholder engagement across the full project lifecycle—from early development through to commissioning and compliance.
Key Responsibilities n
n
- Lead and deliver power system studies including load flow, energetic (RMS) and EMT modelling (PSSE and PSCAD)
n
- Develop and negotiate Generator Performance Standards (GPS) and connection applications
n
- Define and implement grid connection strategies for complex and hybrid renewable projects
n
- Manage AEMO generator registration processes (R1 & R2) and associated deliverables
n
- Oversee concept design development and provide balance-of-plant electrical design input
n
- Support or lead commissioning activities , hold point testing and model validation
n
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
n
- Engage with key stakeholders including AEMO, NSPs, OEMs and project developers
n
- Advise clients on regulatory requirements, rule changes and ongoing compliance under the NEM framework
n
What You’ll Be Working On n
n
- Utility-scale renewable projects (typically 100 MW to 2 GW+)
n
- Hybrid systems integrating solar, wind and BESS
n
- Complex grid connection challenges requiring technical and regulatory expertise
n
- End-to-end project involvement across: n n
- Pre-feasibility & feasibility studies
n
- Connection applications and GPS negotiation
n
- Construction, commissioning and operational compliance
n
n
About You n
You’ll be a highly capable power systems professional with a strong understanding of grid connections in the NEM.
n
Essential:
n
n
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
n
- 5–15+ years’ experience in power systems engineering (level aligned to Senior / Principal / Lead)
n
- Proven experience in grid connection studies and GPS development
n
- Strong working knowledge of PSSE and/or PSCAD
n
- Solid understanding of AEMO processes, NER requirements and NSP frameworks
n
- Experience working across multi-stakeholder project environments
n
n
Highly Regarded:
n
n
- Experience leading projects or mentoring teams
n
- Commissioning, testing or compliance experience
n
- Exposure to hybrid renewable energy projects
n
- Familiarity with system strength, stability and evolving grid requirements
n
