Are you a talented Application Support Engineer looking for your next challenge? Adviser Online is the digital platform Financial Advisers use to manage their clients' wealth on Macquarie Wrap, one of Australia's largest investment platforms, powering transacting, portfolio reporting and financial planning integration.
As a Digital Wealth Management Platform, engineering is at the core of what we do, and support engineering is no exception. You will operate in an autonomous environment where you are empowered to do things the right way, continuously learn, and become a master of your craft. You will also get to work in an environment where modern tools and technologies are applied at scale.
AI is a core part of how this team works, and you will have access to first-class tooling from your first week. Our engineers use Claude Code connected directly to the systems they support, including Sumo Logic, Dynatrace, GKE and Jira, alongside purpose-built tools and a knowledge graph that helps trace issues across our technology stack. We strive to automate repetitive tasks such as log analysis, initial triage and incident write-ups, allowing engineers to focus on problem solving, customer outcomes and innovation.
At Macquarie, you will be exposed to Java, cloud platforms, microservices, APIs and Site Reliability Engineering practices for monitoring, alerting and incident management. Our applications run on Java 21 and Java 25. We work regular business hours, although in exceptional circumstances such as a production incident, additional support may be required. There is no roster and no on-call rotation.
We are a global financial services group operating in 30 markets with 57 years of unbroken profitability. At Macquarie, you’re empowered to shape a career that is fulfilling and creates value.
You will bring your insights and expertise to the task at hand and feel supported as you make your own kind of impact for a better future.
What role will you play? As a Support Engineer within Adviser Online, you will deliver an excellent support experience to Financial Advisers and their clients, helping resolve issues across accounts, payments, trading and reporting. You will take ownership of incidents from triage through to resolution, using logs, data and established playbooks to investigate problems and identify root causes.
You will be responsible for ensuring support requests are managed efficiently and in line with Service Level Agreements (SLAs), while maintaining a robust focus on customer outcomes.
Working closely with support, product and engineering teams, you will help identify, prioritise and resolve issues impacting end users. You will play a key role in improving how incidents are managed by developing tools, automating processes and enhancing diagnostic capabilities. You will also act as a liaison between the Application Support team and our wider support and incident response functions, contribute to environment and testing activities across the Wealth Management platform, and continuously improve documentation while openly sharing knowledge and learnings with the broader team.
What You Offer
- Three or more years of experience in application support, or equivalent experience debugging production systems.
- Strong Java skills with the ability to read and troubleshoot production code.
- A curious and analytical mindset, with a commitment to identifying root causes rather than workarounds.
- Experience using application monitoring and debugging tools such as Sumo Logic, Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics or Datadog.
- Working knowledge of SQL.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
It Would Also Be Beneficial If You Have
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud, AWS or Azure.
- Experience with Kubernetes or an interest in learning it.
- Experience in data integration or data manipulation projects.
- A track record of automating manual processes and improving operational efficiency.
