• Plan and execute complex professional / product engineering work which requires individual judgement and initiative in the application of engineering principals, techniques and methods on all Howden products.
n • Key products include:
n o Fans and blowers for mining, industrial and tunnel ventilation applications, including centrifugal, axial and mixed flow types.
n o Screw compressor packages for mine cooling and industrial cooling applications.
n • Ensure that projects and services are executed on budget, on time and to the required engineering and design standards.

What Will You Do? n

n

n

• Plan, coordinate and manage professional engineering works without supervision
n • Lead the design activities for a specific project, reporting functionally to the Project Manager for those activities
n • Produce 3D models and coordinate with drafting team to produce manufacturing drawings.
n • Monitor and control the quality, timeliness and cost of delivery of design works
n • Manage design resource allocation to maximise efficiency and effectiveness
n • Administer, both technically and commercially, contracts for external design resources
n • Plan and manage interfaces between clients, designers, consultants, suppliers, and project staff
n • Manage the effect of design changes in terms of technical, budget and schedule
n • Fulfil the role of Designer, Checker, Verifier, and/or Design Lead in the provision of engineering works
n • Certify skilled engineering work as being compliant with relevant codes and standards
n • Attend site, supplier or customer premises to ascertain or confirm project requirements
n • Carry out detailed engineering calculations
n • Develop detailed designs in sketch and drawing format
n • Develop technical specification documents and reports




n • Evaluate and make recommendations on technical aspects of supplier offers
n • Participate and positively contribute in meetings and workshops
n • Provide technical support for tendering, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance activities
n • Provide ad-hoc technical advice to management, projects and tendering personnel
n • Conduct ad-hoc tasks which are indirectly related to the position
n • Continually develop engineering skills
n • Provide support to drawing office.
n • Assess repair work scopes and compile repair procedures.
n • Offer solutions to the works regarding manufacturing / construction non-conformances and rectifications in order to assist the works.
n • Lead, supervise, guide and mentor less experienced engineering staff
n • Carry out & verify work to comply with applicable national & international codes & standards.
n • Ensure designs adhere to health and safety standards and comply to legislative requirements thereby providing products where risks of injury have been minimised and thus providing a safe working environment.
n • Provide input at design reviews to ensure designs are in accordance to Howden standards and conform to clients’ requirements.
n • Plan, coordinate and manage professional engineering work for which it is necessary to modify proven approaches, devise new techniques with continuous improvement approach.

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require… n

• Master of Engineering degree
n • Exposure in manufacturing environment
n • Proficiency in finite element analysis and results interpretation
n • Excel coding experience will be preferred
n • Proficiency in the use of Autodesk software: AutoCAD, Inventor and Vault.
n • Experience in rotating machinery engineering design

Essential skills, knowledge & behaviours
n • Design Engineer with minimum of 3 years of work experience in related field
n • Engineering Degree in an appropriate engineering related discipline
n • Proficiency in 2D CAD and 3D modelling
n • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications
n • Positive communication skills oral and written and ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organisation
n • Self motivated and self directed
