Job Description
Chief Engineer - FV Ocean Dynasty (MED 1 or MED 2)

Stehr Group is one of Australia's leading seafood companies, specialising in Southern Bluefin Tuna ranching and offshore operations.
n
We are currently seeking a Chief Engineer (MED 1 or MED 2) to join our team in Port Lincoln. This is a hands-on role supporting vessel operations year-round on the FV Ocean Dynasty, including preparation for and participation in the fishing season for Sardines and Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT).

Seasonality & Roster
n
This role is Port Lincoln-based year-round, with fishing work varying by season:
n
n
- SBT fishing - January to April - offshore trips approximately 1 – 2 weeks at a time
n
- Sardine fishing - October through to June - offshore trips approximately 2 – 5 days at a time
n
n
Outside fishing season, work is generally local vessel operations, tuna transfer / feeding / harvest support, and planned maintenance. Rosters vary depending on operations and weather.
n
The Role
n
You'll be responsible for day-to-day operation and maintenance of vessel engines and machinery, working with the Vessel Maintenance Manager and crew.
n
Typical duties include:
n
n
- Operation and maintenance of main engines and auxiliary systems
n
- Pre-checks, start-ups, servicing and record-keeping
n
- Fault-finding and basic repairs (including hydraulics and deck equipment)
n
- Preparing vessels for sea and supporting fishing operations
n
- General vessel upkeep and housekeeping
n
n
Pay & Engagement
n
Pay varies by season and engagement type. Local operations are paid hourly, while offshore periods are paid on a daily sea rate for SBT, and share of catch for Sardine.
n
The role typically commences as casual, with a pathway to full time or salary for the right candidate.
Remuneration is based on ticket level and experience, with details discussed at interview.

Requirements

- MED 1 or MED 2 qualification (current)
n
- Relevant marine engineering experience
n
- Strong mechanical and fault-finding ability
n
- Able to work independently and as part of a crew
n
- Willing to assist with general vessel operations when required
n
- Unrestricted Australian working rights (no sponsorship available)
n
