About the opportunity

n

Based in Perth's northern metropolitan area, Altrad are seeking an experienced Senior SMP Project Engineer with strong site-based construction experience to support the delivery of a major SMP project. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to delivering WA's next major water source at the Alkimos Desalination plant.

n

As part of the Project's senior leadership team, this role is embedded on‐site, coordinating and driving execution across multiple work fronts while providing hands‐on, field‐level leadership to ensure the programme translates into safe and efficient delivery.

n

You'll work directly with the client, workshop, and on‐ground site teams, maintaining tight communication and keeping works progressing smoothly through each stage of construction.

n

This role suits someone who has spent real time in an SMP construction environment and is now ready to bring that field credibility into a senior capacity.

n

In this role you will:

n

Coordinate a team of SMP Project Engineers on-site to drive aligned project outcomes.

n

Work closely with the construction manager and superintendent to develop and implement practical, field-tested execution strategies across SMP scopes.

n

Act as a key on-site interface between client, workshop, and site to ensure seamless communication and delivery.

n

Manage subcontractors and vendors on the ground, including scope development and performance oversight.

n

Drive planning, scheduling, and progress tracking from a construction‐execution perspective to support timely delivery.

n

Navigate SIMOPS and complex,



live construction environments with a strong focus on safety and efficiency.

n

Support commercial outcomes through proactive, on‐site problem solving and risk management.

n

Champion a strong HSEQ culture across all aspects of project delivery.

n

About you

n

You're a hands‐on operator who can confidently engage with site teams, the client, subcontractors, and off‐site support functions, while managing competing priorities in a fast‐paced delivery environment to achieve safe, on‐time, and commercially sound project outcomes.

n

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or equivalent Mechanical preferred) with substantial site-based experience.

n

Significant construction experience on SMP projects, with a strong focus on piping scopes.

n

Proven ability to lead and mentor an engineering team.

n

Solid, practical understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and SIMOPS.

n

Experience managing subcontractors and vendors on‐site, with the ability to drive performance and outcomes.

n

Demonstrated capability developing execution strategies and coordinating complex works from the field.

n

Commercial acumen and working knowledge of construction contracts and project controls.

n

Proficiency across project systems and tools, including Excel and planning software (e.g. P6).

n

Demonstrated experience championing quantity reporting and cost control.

n

Strong commitment to HSEQ, with a hands‐on focus on maintaining safe and compliant site environments.
