About the role
n
Mater Private Hospital Townsville is seeking motivated and compassionate Junior House Officers (JHOs) to join our team. This opportunity is offered as a 12-month maximum-term contract working full time hours, commencing in January 2027.
n
As a JHO, you will provide high-quality clinical care to patients under the supervision and guidance of Consultants and Senior Medical Staff, while further developing your medical knowledge, clinical skills, and professional experience within a supportive and collaborative environment.
n
The successful applicant may also have the opportunity to undertake a rotation with the North West Hospital and Health Service at Mount Isa Hospital, providing valuable exposure to rural and remote healthcare settings.
n
At Mater Private Hospital Townsville, JHOs have the opportunity to gain broad clinical experience through rotations across a range of specialty areas, including:

- Cardiology
n
- Emergency Department
n
- General Medicine (Renal, Respiratory, Geriatric, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Haematology and Oncology)
n
- General Surgery (Urology, Plastics, Gastrointestinal, Bariatric and Laparoscopic Surgery)
n
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
n
- Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery and Rehabilitation
n
- Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology
n
n

- Provide medical care under the supervision and direction of senior medical staff.
n
- Initiate and interpret clinical investigations
n
- Liaise with team members including Allied Health and communicate with patients and their relatives as required
n
- Prepare for and attend ward rounds.
n
- Undertake an initial assessment of referred patients and discuss a formulated plan with the consultant and clinical coordinator (when applicable).
n
- Participate in the discharge planning process and communicate with community providers.
n
- Provide patient updates and changes to your consultant, clinical coordinator/team leader, nurse.
The day-to-day review of patients and safe handover of patient care to after-hours staff.
n
- Documentation of the patient's progress in the patient record.
n
- Participate in the discharge planning process and communicate with community providers through discharge letters, discharge summaries and otherreports as required by the Hospital.
n
- The provision of assistance in operating theatres
n
n
About you
n
To be considered for a position applicants are required to:
n
n
- M.B.B.S. or equivalent from a recognised University accredited by the Australian Medical Council, with relevant registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
n
- Be eligible for General or Provisional Registration with AHPRA
n
- Have at least 1-year relevant clinical postgraduate experience
n
- AMC1 and AMC2 and English certificate - for IMG overseas applicants
n
n
