Job Description

Bowness Stud & Watershed Farm are seeking an experienced and competent Stud Hand to join our team for the busy thoroughbred breeding season, progressing into yearling sales preparation.

This is a hands on role suited to someone who is already a confident, capable horse handler and can work safely and competently with broodmares, foals and young thoroughbreds.

Duties will include

n

- Daily care, feeding and checking of broodmares, foals and young stock
n
- Handling mares and foals during the breeding season
n
- Assisting with horse movements and breeding procedures
n
- Assisting vets and farriers
n
- Administering treatments and medications
n
- Monitoring horse health and identifying injuries or concerns
n
- Handling and educating foals, weanlings and yearlings
n
- Progressing into yearling sales preparation, including grooming, washing, hand walking, parade practice and stable duties
n
- General stud and farm duties as required
n

Applicants must have

n

n




- Strong practical horse handling skills
n
- Previous experience working with thoroughbreds, breeding stock or young horses
n
- Confidence handling young and sometimes difficult horses
n
- Valuable knowledge of general horse care and health
n
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
n
- A reliable, hardworking attitude and good attention to detail
n
- Excellent English speaking and listening skills
n
- A current driver's licence and valid visa to work in Australia
n

A minimum commitment of 4+ months is required, with preference given to applicants able to remain through the breeding and yearling preparation season.

n

Working Holiday Visa holders are welcome to apply. Eligible for 88 days specified work for second Working Holiday Visa.
