Your new company A well-established and growing organisation seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant/Finance Officer to join their finance team in Canberra. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working across multiple entities, managing end-to-end accounting responsibilities, and contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Your recent role
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations across multiple entities. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing accounts payable, accounts receivable and payment processing
- Completing bank reconciliations, journals, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assisting with month-end, quarter-end and year-end processes
- Preparing multi-entity accounts, intercompany reconciliations and consolidation schedules
- Preparing and lodging BAS and other statutory reporting requirements
- Supporting payroll-related reporting, PAYG and superannuation obligations
- Assisting with budgeting, financial reporting and compliance activities
- Liaising with external auditors and preparing supporting documentation
- Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring reporting deadlines are met
What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Company Accountant or similar finance role
- Strong working knowledge of Xero
- Experience with reconciliations, month-end processes and statutory reporting
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required
Desirable
- Experience working across multiple entities
- Exposure to group consolidations and intercompany reconciliations
- Background within construction, property development or a related industry
- Relevant accounting qualifications or working towards completion
