About the role
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our team in Kununurra, WA on a full-time basis. This role is fundamental to supporting our financial operations and contributing to the accuracy and integrity of our accounting functions.
As Assistant
Accountant, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will work closely with management to deliver essential financial services and help drive the organisation's financial health. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your accounting expertise in a supportive environment whilst contributing meaningfully to our business objectives.
Key responsibilities
Your primary duties will include:
- Assisting with the preparation and processing of financial records, including accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
- Reconciling bank statements, general ledger accounts and other financial records to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Supporting the preparation of financial statements, trial balances and other accounting reports
- Processing invoices, expense claims and payment documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation for audit purposes and regulatory compliance
- Assisting with payroll processing and related administrative tasks
- Supporting month-end and year-end close procedures
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders including customers, suppliers, financiers and advisers as required
- Contributing to continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems
What we're looking for To succeed in this role, you should possess:
- A qualification in Accounting or Finance (Diploma or Bachelor's degree)
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- A solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles, practices and financial reporting standards
- Excellent attention to detail and strong numeracy skills
- Good organisational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Reliability, integrity and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality
- Willingness to develop your professional knowledge and pursue further accounting qualifications
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience in a similar accounting support role
- Experience with cloud-based accounting systems
- Knowledge of GST, FBT and tax compliance requirements
- Familiarity with payroll administration
