The Statutory Planning

Division is seeking an Assistant Director who has experience managing a wide range of environmental, planning and/or development assessment processes.

The Environment Assessment team is responsible for managing environmental assessment processes for development proposals that have an environmental impact. This includes assessing Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), Environmental Significance Opinions (ESOs), and significant Development Applications (DAs) in accordance with the Planning Act 2023. The team also undertake a range of related functions, including reporting on ACT strategic assessments in accordance with the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

In this role, the Assistant Director will be primarily responsible for undertaking environmental impact assessment, development assessment, and related functions in accordance with the Planning Act 2023. The role will require project management, stakeholder engagement, and flexibility and adaptability to respond to a range of requests.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:

- Experience or qualifications in natural resource management, environmental sciences, local and regional planning, environmental law, architecture, urban design or town planning would be an advantage.

Note: This is a permanent position available from 16 November 2026. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. A merit pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future vacancies over the next 12 months. This position is located in a workplace designated for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
