The Role

We're after an experienced Casual Gardener to join our grounds team and help lead the day-to-day upkeep of a large, high-profile visitor site — with genuine potential to move into a full-time position for the right person. This isn't an entry-level role: we need someone who can assess a garden bed, a hedge line, or a irrigation fault and just get on with it.

Day-to-day duties will include:

- Independently planning and prioritising garden maintenance across a large, wide-ranging property

- Mowing, edging, whipper-snipping, and turf management to a consistently high standard

- Pruning, shaping, and renovating established garden beds and hedges

- Planting and establishment care for new beds, hedges, and windbreak plantings

- Diagnosing and maintaining irrigation systems, not just basic checks

- Identifying plant health, pest, and weed issues and recommending treatment

- Safe operation and basic maintenance of ride-on mowers, brushcutters, chainsaws, and other grounds equipment

- Mentoring or directing casual/junior staff on garden tasks as required

- Working safely around animal enclosures and following site biosecurity protocols

What We're Looking For





- Several years' hands-on experience in gardening, horticulture, or grounds maintenance — essential

- Confident working autonomously, setting your own priorities across a large site with minimal direction

- Sound plant knowledge (natives, ornamentals, and hedging/windbreak species highly regarded)

- Experience operating and maintaining garden machinery, including ride-on mowers and chainsaws

- Horticulture trade qualifications (e.g. Cert III in Horticulture) highly regarded
- A current driver's licence (own transport preferred, given the rural location)

- A genuine interest in plants, animals, or the broader zoo/tourism industry is a bonus
