We are seeking an experienced Support Worker to provide ongoing support to a participant with a spinal cord injury.
1. Spinal Cord Injury Experience – Essential
Applicants must have previous hands-on experience supporting people with spinal cord injuries and understand the complex physical support needs associated with spinal cord injury, including mobility, transfers, muscle spasms, neuropathic pain, pressure care and reduced sensation.
2. Catheter Management Experience – Essential
Applicants must have experience with catheter management, including supporting bladder management routines and catheter care, and must be confident following established care plans and appropriate infection-control procedures.
Please do not apply if you do not have relevant experience in both spinal cord injury support and catheter management.
About the Role The successful applicant will provide person-centred support with personal care, mobility, transfers, bladder and bowel management and daily activities.
The participant requires two-person assistance and a ceiling hoist for transfers and ongoing support with complex physical needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, respectful and person-centred support.
- Assist with ceiling hoist transfers and manual handling.
- Provide catheter and bladder management support within your training and scope.
- Assist with bowel management routines.
- Support pressure care and skin monitoring.
- Support wheelchair positioning and mobility.
- Assist with personal care and daily living activities.
- Follow individual care plans and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate support records and communicate any concerns.
About You
You will be
- Experienced in spinal cord injury support – essential.
- Experienced in catheter management – essential.
- Confident with complex physical support and manual handling.
- Experienced with hoist transfers.
- Reliable, patient and compassionate.
- Professional and respectful of privacy and dignity.
- Able to follow detailed care plans and instructions.
- A solid communicator with excellent attention to detail.
Essential Checks & Qualifications
- Relevant experience in support work, nursing, aged care or a related field.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to obtain.
- Current First Aid and CPR.
- Relevant qualifications are highly regarded.
- Participant-specific training will be provided where required.
