Goodwin Aged Care Services is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Catering Assistant to join our Retirement Living team.

Working within one of our Retirement Living Village cafés, you will support the Head Chef and Chef with food preparation, meal service, cleaning and general kitchen duties. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy hospitality environment and takes pride in delivering excellent service to residents and guests.

This is a casual position and will be paid at the applicable base hourly rate under the Goodwin Enterprise Agreement, plus casual loading.

About the role

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Providing quality catering services in the café dining room, function rooms, service area and kitchen.
- Assisting with basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, trimming, portioning and plating.
- Supporting the preparation and service of meals in the café and at functions.
- Setting up and packing down functions.
- Washing and correctly storing dishes, pots, pans and other kitchen equipment.
- Cleaning and maintaining kitchen, café and dining areas in accordance with task schedules and hygiene standards.




- Storing cooked, raw and frozen food safely in accordance with HACCP requirements.
- Following food safety, infection prevention and control procedures.
- Keeping equipment clean, safely stored and ready for use.
- Identifying and reporting food safety risks, hazards, incidents or maintenance concerns.
- Providing residents and guests with respectful, friendly and professional service.
- Completing other reasonable duties consistent with the position

About you

You will be a dependable and energetic team member who can work effectively in a busy kitchen environment. You will demonstrate:

- Previous experience working as a Catering Assistant or in a similar hospitality role.
- Experience with dining room duties and food service.
- Knowledge of food handling, basic food preparation and hygiene requirements.
- An understanding of HACCP standards.
- Knowledge of the safe use and application of cleaning chemicals.
- The ability to complete basic documentation and follow workplace procedures.
- The ability to prioritise tasks and work with limited supervision.
- Robust communication and interpersonal skills.
- A positive attitude and commitment to providing quality service.
- Respect for residents, colleagues and people from diverse backgrounds.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

Qualifications and requirements

- A Food Handler Certificate, or willingness to obtain one, is mandatory.
- A hospitality qualification is desirable.
- A current Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate is desirable.
- Knowledge of work health and safety practices will be highly regarded.
- You must be willing to obtain and maintain any required police check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance or other legislated clearances.
