Consumer Credit Legal Service (WA) Inc. (CCLS) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals who are interested in being considered as a candidate for election as Chair at the 2026 Annual General Meeting.
CCLS works to improve financial wellbeing and access to justice for people experiencing credit, debt, banking, consumer and financial hardship issues across Western Australia.
CCLS is a specialist community legal centre delivering free legal assistance, education, advocacy and law reform for consumers experiencing credit, debt, banking and financial hardship issues.
The Chair leads the CCLS Board, supports effective governance, strategic oversight and accountability, and works closely with the CEO on governance matters while maintaining the distinction between Board governance and operational management.
About the role
· Lead the Board and chair Board meetings, General Meetings and the Annual General Meeting.
· Support effective, inclusive and effective decision-making.
· Act as the primary governance contact between the Board and CEO.
· Support Board oversight of strategy, governance, finance, risk and compliance.
· Lead Board succession, induction, development and evaluation processes.
· Lead the CEO performance review process.
Board meetings are generally held monthly, with papers provided in advance. The Chair should also allow additional time for Board committee participation, stakeholder engagement and Chair-CEO liaison as required.

· Strong governance capability and sound judgement.
· Calm and constructive strategic leadership.
· Commitment to access to justice and consumer protection.
· The ability to support an effective and respectful Board culture.
· The capacity to work collaboratively with the CEO and fellow Board members.
Experience in legal services, community services, financial services, regulation, governance, risk, funding environments or consumer advocacy would be valuable.
Applicants should be willing and able to become a member of Consumer Credit Legal Service (WA) Inc. and satisfy any eligibility requirements under the CCLS Rules of Association.
Appointment process The recruitment process will identify one or more preferred candidates for consideration by the Board and, if recommended, any candidate will stand for election as Chair at the CCLS Annual General Meeting on 12 November 2026 in accordance with the CCLS Rules of Association.
