The Senior System and Storage Engineer role main Focus areas: data centres, infrastructure storage deployment, network services deployment and management, data storage and transmission efficiency analysis, data access interface design, or database design. The role has a focus on supporting a secure, large scale, high-performance, highly-flexible, multi-protocol and highly robust service, within the context of a national collaboration of cloud infrastructure providers
Core Responsibilities ▸ Administration of storage, compute and cloud infrastructure; ▸ Perform day-to-day maintenance and administration of storage systems consisting of disk and tape; ▸ Participate in capacity planning and usage trending; ▸ Implement and manage storage technologies such as auto-tiering, data replication, etc; ▸ Maintain system and storage best practices and storage life-cycle management; ▸ Administer system and storage virtualisation layers and integration with co-located HPC, cloud and container infrastructure; ▸ Perform day-to-day troubleshooting of system and storage related issues, performance issues, etc; ▸ Ensure robustness, security and scalability of systems and storage, and related infrastructure; ▸ Support data archival and retrieval process ▸ Interface with other stakeholders to understand current and future technology requirements; ▸ Resolve day-to-day ITSM incidents and problems; ▸ Participate in the change management process;
Qualifications / Industry Experience / Specific Knowledge or Skills
Essential: ▸ Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in Computer Science (or other relevant IT field); ▸ Ability to utilise AI tools in a responsible and effective manner to augment capability. ▸ Strong experience in system and storage technologies,
from the storage medium through to systems interconnection up to the application layer; ▸ Experience with monitoring and observability tools, notably Zabbix, Prometheus and Grafana ▸ Ability to administer and configure a range of operating systems, with a focus on Linux, and services including Networking; Web Servers, Relational Databases; ▸ Strong experience with Linux HA and cluster concepts; ▸ In-depth knowledge and demonstrated work experience in enterprise grade, multi-tiered (disk and tape) and multi vendor storage systems. ▸ In-depth knowledge of Hitachi Vantara and software defined storage and Dynamic Provision pools; ▸ Experience of Versity HSM systems and clustered file systems such as ScoutFS, Weka, and VAST; including day to day management, policy configuration and interaction with robotic tape libraries; ▸ Demonstrated experience with DevOps and IaC environments including Anisible.
Desirable: ▸ Demonstrated working experience with large enterprise multi-vendor supported networks; ▸ Experience with high-performance networking technologies. Skills in routing and switching hardware, protocols (TCP/IP, InfiniBand, RDMA ), software and hardware firewalls; ▸ Certification in enterprise grade storage technologies ▸ Experience in transfer clients, web applications and transfer servers; ▸ An understanding of or exposure to virtualisation technologies (KVM, OpenStack); ▸ Strong scripting skills (in bash, python, sed, awk, etc) highly desirable; ▸ Familiar with ITIL methodology; ▸ Data protection software and disaster recovery experience a plus; ▸ Familiar with ICT Infrastructure related best practices and standards such as ISO27001, ISO18028-2 etc.
The role will be based at the Head Office in Sydney CBD and working from home under a hybrid (50/50) model.
