Paediatric presentations rarely fit neatly into one discipline.
A child experiencing sensory regulation difficulties may also be dealing with anxiety, communication differences, executive functioning challenges or difficulties participating at school.
That's why having the right disciplines around you matters.
This established Newcastle paediatric clinic brings together Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and Speech Pathologists, with clinicians regularly sharing clients and collaborating around their goals.
Multidisciplinary Work That Isn't Just a Buzzword. In this clinic, multidisciplinary collaboration doesn't mean everyone's logo appears on the same website but clinicians never actually speak.
Many children access multiple services internally.
If you're working with a child who also sees one of the Psychologists or Speech Pathologists, you can connect directly about:
- Regulation
- Behaviour and emotional presentation
- Communication
- School participation
- Sensory needs
- Family strategies
- Therapy goals
- Functional progress
The wider clinical team also meets regularly, with opportunities to bring more challenging cases to the group and hear different clinical perspectives.
Your Paediatric Caseload: You'll support children and adolescents aged approximately 2–18 years, predominantly through NDIS and private services.
Presentations include:
- Autism
- ADHD
- Emotional regulation
- Sensory processing
- Executive functioning
- Fine and gross motor development
- Self-care
- School participation
- Independence
The caseload primarily involves Level 1 and Level 2 Autism, with some more complex work available depending on your interests and experience.
Clinic + Schools Your week will generally be approximately:
50% Clinic | 50% School/Community
Most community appointments involve local schools rather than private homes.
School travel is typically kept within around 30 minutes of the clinic, making community work much easier to manage.
Clinic appointments generally include 45 minutes with the client and 15 minutes for documentation.
Why Consider This Role?
- Psychologists In-House: Develop a broader understanding of emotional, behavioural and psychological factors impacting your clients.
- Speech Pathologists In-House: Easily collaborate around communication and shared goals.
- Work with other OTs: Work alongside clinicians rather than being expected to figure everything out alone.
- Fortnightly External Supervision: Regular protected clinical support.
- $2,000 PD Budget: Continue building your clinical interests.
- Shared Case Discussions: Learn from different professional perspectives.
- Solid Team Retention: Join an established service where clinicians stay.
- Consistent Hours: Work Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm.
- Minimal Routine Home Visiting: Predominantly clinic and school-based.
Who This Would Suit: This position would particularly suit an OT who enjoys paediatrics but wants to develop a broader clinical perspective.
Perhaps you're currently working relatively independently and would like easier access to Psychologists and Speech Pathologists.
Or maybe you enjoy discussing the reasoning behind a child's presentation rather than simply treating your own discipline-specific goals.
Either way, you'll have clinicians around you who can contribute different perspectives.
