Company
With over 60 years in operation and more than 75 staff, this firm has built a quality client base that ranges from startups through to large private groups. They were early to embrace remote work and it shows, with team members already working happily from Brisbane, Gold Coast and Adelaide. The systems, workflows and communication rhythms that make remote work feel natural are already well established, so you would be stepping into something that simply works from day one.
The culture is best understood through the numbers. Average tenure across the team sits at 6 years, more than half the staff have reached long service leave, and their longest serving team member has now been with the firm for over 20 years. People stay because they feel genuinely looked after. There is a firm-wide understanding that no calls or emails happen outside of working hours, so when you finish for the day, your evening is your own. Flexibility is handled with common sense and trust, so if you need to start early and finish early, shuffle your hours across the week, or duck out for a school pickup or an appointment, that is simply how the firm operates, and annual leave is treated with the same understanding.
Something the firm cares deeply about is making sure remote team members keep growing. They run monthly in-house training, quarterly sessions designed specifically for senior staff, and bring in external trainers throughout the year, with everyone joining live together, whether from the office or from home.
Where possible, remote staff are also flown in for quarterly catch ups, end of financial year celebrations and the Christmas party. There is no ongoing travel expectation, just a firm that makes a real effort to keep everyone feeling connected and part of the team.
Position
The firm is recruiting two positions and is happy to shape each one around the strengths and preferences of the right person.
If you are someone who loves the technical side, complex compliance, tax planning and review work, the role can lean that way with limited client contact. If you enjoy the client relationships and want to blend hands-on work with advisory, there is a wonderful home for that too. In both cases, an established offshore team takes care of the basic compliance work, which frees your time for the work that genuinely benefits from your experience: group structures, planning, review and advisory projects.
You will report to an Associate Director with a direct line to the Partner, keeping the structure flat and giving you real autonomy over how you manage your day and your workflow. The salary range is $110,000 to $130,000 plus super depending on experience, with individual and team bonuses on top. Salaries are reviewed twice a year, a formal review annually and a merit-based review at the six month mark, because the firm believes good work should be recognised as it happens.
Every remote team member receives a full home office setup and a structured onboarding program, along with a dedicated administration and IT contact within the practice who is there to help whenever you need it.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years' Australian public practice experience within Business Services working at a Senior Accountant, Assistant Manager or Manager level.
- Chartered Accountant (CA ANZ) or CPA qualified.
- Experience working across individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts and group structures.
- Confident preparing and reviewing financial statements and income tax returns, with well-rounded exposure to tax planning, trust distributions, Division 7A and capital gains tax matters.
- Any experience across FBT, small business CGT concessions or business advisory work is a welcome bonus, though certainly not essential.
- Solid organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workflow and work autonomously.
- An open communicator who is comfortable working as part of a remote team.
- A genuine interest in ongoing professional development and continuing to grow your skills.
- The firm uses Xero, XPM, FYI Docs and Active Workpapers, however candidates with MYOB AE, MYOB AO, HandiSoft, APS or similar practice management software are encouraged to apply, as the systems can be taught.
Additional Opportunities
Alongside this position, I am currently engaged on a number of assignments across the accounting and financial services sector, including several work from home roles that are not advertised publicly. If you are weighing up your options and would prefer to start with a relaxed, confidential conversation rather than a formal application, you are very welcome to call me directly.
