About the role The office is seeking applications for two part-time 12-month positions for Communications and Engagement Officers to join the office. The roles will be based in Launceston, Tasmania as Electorate Officer.

The Office is seeking people with strong administrative, organisational and communication skills. These opportunities are ideally suite to a community-minded individuals with a keen interest in politics and policy of the Australian Government, and a genuine commitment to helping others, with the ability to think strategically and to have an interest and robust understanding of government policies.

Key responsibilities

- Implementation of communications and engagement plans aligned with local priorities

- Excellent communication, administrative, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with high attention to detail and deadlines

- Supporting constituents with requests for information and assistance relating to federal government programs, offices, and departments

- Organising, supporting, and attending community and electorate activities, meetings and events

- Electorate office duties such as answering incoming calls, drafting correspondence, meeting with constituents, and administrative tasks, including data entry

- Strong organisational, prioritisation and time management skills with well developed office IT skills.

- Other duties as required.

The ideal applicants should possess the following skills and experience:

- Effective communication and liaison skills, with the ability to effectively engage with the community members, originations and interest groups.

- Have sound knowledge of the political process and the Australian parliamentary and political system.





- Ability to work cooperatively in a team to achieve strategic objectives.

- Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.

- Be proactive and able to work in a fast paced environment, including being able to operate effectively in high paced varying physical work schedule.

- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, showing initiative, flexibility and problem-solving skills.

Additional skills:

- Knowledge of digital media, photography and videoing skills would be an advantage.

- Knowledge of the electorate of Bass and community and corporate organisations, would be an advantage.

Employment conditions:

The positions are offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-2027. Which include:

A commencing salary between $77,071 - $81,594 + ESA (prorated) will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.

- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable

Applicants should note the following:

- The successful applicants will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.

- An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subjected to extension.

- The successful applicants will be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
