Beenleigh Housing and Development Company Ltd (BHDC) is the oldest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisation of its type in Eagleby, Beenleigh Logan QLD. BHDC strives to support, enhance, and transform the lives of its members in culturally supportive, community connected and regenerative ways. BHDC was formally established in 1994 as a not-for-profit, registered charity holding Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) registration with the Australian Taxation Office.
Key Responsibilities
Indigenous Education, Innovation, Community, Leadership Backbone Role:
Provide leadership, guidance and action in Indigenous education, development and connection to a growing community and team of support and development workers. This role is to develop Indigenous empowerment through learning as Jinndi reaches into and works with learning places, jarjums and their families within the phases of Early Years, Primary and early Secondary. The overall community aim is to strengthen transitions and Community contributing to closing the education gap.
Provide leadership and guidance within Community, across and with partners and networks in the field community education and development. Develop and maintain a positive and supportive team culture.
Conduct regular team meetings, systematic individual and small group management of operational tasks, and performance evaluations.
Receive guidance and leadership to maintain and develop the Jinndi Jarjum Learning Nest and Jinndi Clubs across Logan.
Program Backbone Coordination:
Assist to coordinate and oversee the implementation of learning, connection and contribute to collective impact across the Logan Nest particularly outreach into the Community as well as inside the Nest Community.
Communication and connection with community and collectives such as Eagleby Together as well as service providers.
Ensure that services provided align with Jinndi strategies and vision as well as Early Years, Primary and Secondary learning phases with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families to support successful transitions and learning.
Monitor program outcomes and report on progress to senior management – according to local context and plans.
Other Duties
Active participation in Jinndi Community Programs
Ensure that Jinndi learning services are culturally appropriate and proactive.
Assist with the holistic learning delivery
Community and Cultural Engagement
Foster and maintain robust connections with the local community.
Promote cultural sensitivity and respect within Jinndi and the institutions encountered.
Collaborate with community organizations and partners as needed.

Essential Criteria
Relevant tertiary qualifications and proven experience in the Indigenous and Education community
QLD Driver's License
Holder of a current Blue Card (No Card – No Start policy applies)
First Aid and CPR
Knowledge or ability to gain knowledge of the Child Protection Act of 1999, as amended, and an ability to navigate the legislation to find relevant information
Knowledge or ability to gain knowledge of the Child Safety Practice Manual and the ability to navigate it and use it to support clients
Additional Criteria
1. Experience and/or the ability to demonstrate community development skills in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
2. Queensland Education, Learning in the Logan Context – Early Years, Primary, Secondary, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education experience and building connection, strengthening transitions – experience (including leading and within teams), qualifications are a must.
3. High level of communications skills, including the ability to hold difficult and challenging conversations when required.
4. Demonstrated writing skills and the ability to produce learning programs that are comprehensive, detailed, with reporting and assessments. Ability to use a computer including spreadsheets, email, internet, digital media etc.
5. Demonstrated ability to provide training, supervision and management of a small team.
6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
