About the role
Weipa Community Care Incorporated is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Community Connect Worker to join our team on a full-time basis in Weipa, QLD 4874. This role is fundamental to our mission of strengthening community connections and supporting the wellbeing of residents across the Weipa area. As a Community Connect Worker, you will be the vital link between our organisation and the community, fostering relationships, identifying needs, and facilitating access to essential services and support.
This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives whilst working within a supportive and collaborative community-focused environment.
Key responsibilities
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with community members, local organisations, and service providers to build networks of support
- Identify community needs through active engagement, listening, and assessment of local issues and concerns
- Facilitate connections between individuals and appropriate community services, resources, and support programmes
- Organise and coordinate community activities, events, and programmes designed to promote engagement and social connection
- Provide support and advocacy for vulnerable or disadvantaged community members in accessing services and resolving challenges
- Collect and analyse community feedback to inform service development and identify gaps in provision
- Collaborate with local agencies, schools, health services, and government departments to enhance community wellbeing
- Maintain accurate records and produce reports on community engagement activities and outcomes
- Represent Weipa Community Care Incorporated at community meetings, forums, and networking events
- Support the development and delivery of community programmes that promote social inclusion and resilience
What we're looking for
- Proven experience working in community development,
community services, or a related role within the not-for-profit or social services sector
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse groups of people
- Demonstrated commitment to community engagement and understanding of community development principles
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, showing initiative and reliability
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively about addressing community challenges
- Proficiency in using computers and relevant software applications for record-keeping and reporting
- A valid driver's licence and reliable access to transport, as the role may require travel throughout the Weipa area
- Relevant qualifications in community services, social work, community development, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Understanding of and commitment to principles of cultural competency and inclusion
- Working with Children Check and Working with Vulnerable People clearance (or willingness to obtain if required)
- Preferred experience working with Indigenous communities or in remote/regional areas
