The Opportunity:
Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance at the level required for the position.
Play a key role in managing and maintaining secure, reliable and high-performing database environments across development, test, staging and production. The role involves supporting critical database operations, improving system performance and reliability, and working with technical teams and stakeholders to deliver effective database solutions.
Key responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain database environments to ensure high availability, performance, security and reliability.
- Monitor database health, performance and capacity, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues.
- Manage database loading, configuration, environment management and operational procedures.
- Plan and implement database upgrades, enhancements and improvements.
- Develop and maintain effective backup and recovery strategies to support system resilience and business continuity.
- Support data migration activities, including planning, implementation and testing.
- Manage database transitions across development, test, staging and production environments.
- Review database designs and provide recommendations to support effective implementation and future requirements.
- Maintain accurate database design, configuration and implementation documentation.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve database performance, reliability and operational efficiency.
- Investigate and resolve moderately complex database issues, developing practical and effective solutions.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to stakeholders on database administration activities.
- Collaborate with customers, technical teams and stakeholders to support projects, initiatives and business improvements.
What you will bring:
We’re looking for a proactive and technically capable Database Administrator who enjoys solving problems, working with others and keeping critical systems running reliably.
You’ll bring strong database administration experience, attention to detail and the ability to work confidently across changing priorities.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases.
- Solid professional experience in database administration and/or database analysis.
- Experience using database management tools and platforms to monitor, maintain and support database environments.
- Experience developing and implementing database standards, procedures and operational guidelines.
- Robust analytical skills, with the ability to produce, interpret and communicate reports and management information.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with a methodical approach to investigating and resolving issues.
- Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to identify patterns, trends and potential issues.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to clearly present technical information to a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to build effective working relationships across technical teams, customers and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing tasks while maintaining a high standard of work.
- Self motivated and able to work independently, while also contributing effectively within a professional team environment.
- Flexible and adaptable approach, with a willingness to learn and keep up with evolving technologies and business requirements.
- Strong customer focus, professional attitude and commitment to delivering quality outcomes.
Desirable
- Experience using Tableau or other business intelligence and analytics tools, including report or dashboard creation.
- Experience working within a structured engineering,
project or enterprise IT environment.
