Primary objective
Assist the Director Medical Services in providing strategic and operational leadership to the Population and Primary Health Care (PPHC) Branch and the medical team within Population and Primary Health Care, Top End.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Contribute to high level strategic and clinical leadership within Population and Primary Health Care.
2. Collaborate with other health service providers, including those within Top End Region and external providers such as retrieval services, regional
community health boards and Territory-wide services with the NT Department of Health to improve the efficiency and integration of service delivery.
1. Lead the development and operation of clinical audit processes for Rural Medical Practitioners (RMP), Rural Generalist (RG), along with contribution to
clinical governance processes and development of clinical audit within PPHC Branch.
1. Work as part of the Primary Health Care (PHC) team to provide general practice and public health services to Top End remote communities, provide
ongoing program support for the delivery of health care by the PHC team.
1. Support Director Medical Services with recruitment including credentialing, retention, performance monitoring and capacity building for RMP and RGs.
Collaborate with PPHC managers in the integration of RMP and RGs into the Health Centre and PPHC teams.
1. In conjunction with the Director of Medical Services (DMS), share line management of RMP and RG’s, undertake all mandated and required
administrative functions.
1. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
2. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high
quality, safe services and workplaces.
1. Sharing leadership roles with DMS, representing PPHC, providing and promoting clinical governance in strategic for Top End Region, NT Health and
interagency oversight committees.
Selection criteria
Essential
1.
Medical Practitioner eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
2. Fellow of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, Australasian Faculty of Public Health
Medicine, or equivalent, and experience in delivering clinical and public health services in rural settings.
1. Advanced skills and experience across a range of areas in rural and remote medicine.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of clinical management practice and contemporary clinical issues with a Safety and Quality focus.
3. Demonstrated high level of knowledge and ability to act as a qualified adviser to clinicians on clinical governance.
4. Skills and experience in strategic and operational planning, service delivery and policy development.
5. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, negotiation and motivational skills with a focus on building and maintaining relationships with internal
and external stakeholders.
1. Proven ability to manage self and others, monitor performance, manage change and develop policy with an understanding of Equal Employment
Opportunity and Work, Health and Safety principals and policy.
1. Ability and willingness to travel by light aircraft or road to remote localities, and to stay overnight as required in remote communities, and possess a
manual NT Driver Licence.
1. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
