About the role

As a Detection Engineer (12-month Max Term Contract) within the Security Operations team, you will help strengthen and mature CBUS’ cyber security monitoring and threat detection capabilities. This role is responsible for designing, developing and continuously improving detection content, telemetry, analytics and monitoring solutions that enable the organisation to identify and respond to cyber threats quickly and effectively.

Working closely with Security Operations, Threat Intelligence, Infrastructure, Cloud and Engineering teams, you will enhance visibility across the technology environment while supporting SIEM strategy, threat hunting, incident investigations and security operations uplift initiatives. Your expertise will directly contribute to protecting CBUS, its members and critical business services from an evolving cyber threat landscape.

Key Accountabilities

- Develop, implement and continuously improve SIEM detection strategies, monitoring standards and threat detection roadmaps.
- Design, build and maintain high-quality detection content, analytics,



correlation rules and MITRE ATT&CK-aligned; use cases.
- Onboard and optimise telemetry and log sources across cloud, identity, endpoint, network, SaaS and business platforms.
- Partner with Security Operations and cyber teams to support threat hunting, investigations, incident response and automation initiatives.
- Deliver reporting, metrics and insights on detection coverage, monitoring effectiveness, emerging threats and capability improvements.

What will you bring?

- Experience engineering and supporting enterprise SIEM platforms such as Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, IBM QRadar or equivalent.
- Solid detection engineering experience, including development of custom detections, analytics, threat hunting content and correlation rules.
- Deep understanding of cyber security monitoring, MITRE ATT&CK;, threat detection methodologies and hybrid enterprise environments.
- Experience onboarding and optimising log sources, telemetry, data normalisation and integrations across security technologies.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical insights into business outcomes.
