We are seeking an experienced and motivated Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Melbourne. This role is ideal for a qualified mechanic with experience working on heavy vehicles, mobile cranes and construction equipment. Crane experience would be highly regarded. The successful applicant will also be required to occasionally drive heavy vehicles and trucks as part of the role, including moving company vehicles and equipment between worksites and our yard.
Key responsibilities
- Servicing and maintaining mobile cranes, trucks and heavy equipment
- Diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and associated systems
- Carrying out scheduled preventative maintenance
- Mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting
- Inspecting hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems
- Carrying out repairs in the workshop and on-site when required
- Diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems and components
- Responding to breakdowns and carrying out repairs efficiently
- Completing service, maintenance and repair records
- Occasionally driving heavy vehicles and trucks between worksites,
the workshop and other locations as required
About you
- Relevant trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
- Proven experience working on diesel-powered machinery and heavy vehicles
- Robust mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience working on trucks and/or heavy equipment
- Good understanding of hydraulic systems
- Current Heavy Vehicle Licence (HR)
- Confident and safe heavy vehicle driving ability
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematics
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
