A coastal resort town in the Kimberley, WA, is seeking an experienced consultant psychiatrist for the position of Director of Clinical Services – Mental Health. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain real leadership experience, provide clinical guidance, and shape mental health and Alcohol and Other Drug services in the Kimberley.
Appointment and Remuneration:
- 12-month fixed-term, full-time appointment
- 1.0 FTE — 80 hours per fortnight
- Potential for extension and/or permanency
- $600,000-$700,000+ per annum, based on consultant year
Please note, supervision is not available for this position. The Director of Clinical Services – Mental Health provides leadership across mental health and Alcohol and Other Drug services throughout the Kimberley.
Combining clinical practice with strategic leadership, the position spans service development, workforce capability and medical education across acute and community settings. It will suit a senior psychiatrist seeking to extend their clinical leadership and influence clinical governance, service models, education and workforce development throughout Kimberley.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical governance, strategic development and leadership, ensuring adherence to the National Standards for Mental Health Services, and other relevant legislation.
- Deliver comprehensive psychiatric assessment,
diagnosis and treatment for consumers, families and carers.
- Collaborate with the mental health leadership team to shape service development and align regional priorities with WA Country Health Service strategies.
- Provide clinical leadership across the Acute Psychiatric Unit, regional community mental health, and Alcohol and Other Drug services, including consultation-liaison psychiatry to regional hospitals.
- Provide supervision, mentorship and skilled support to psychiatry trainees and the medical health workforce in accordance with Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists requirements.
About You: We are seeking an experienced psychiatrist who brings:
- Current specialist AHPRA registration and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
- Senior clinical and/or medical leadership experience, with the ability to provide effective clinical governance and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong generalist psychiatric skills, including experience across mental health and Alcohol and Other Drug services.
