About the role

This role supports a self-managed NDIS participant with a C4/5 complete spinal cord injury (tetraplegia). He uses a power wheelchair, which he drives himself. He is a fully cognitively intact adult who runs his own life, his own health and his own roster.

He is building a small team of two or three experienced support workers to do the physical parts of his daily routine that he cannot do himself. These will be his first contracted workers, so the routine, the service agreement and the induction are all set out in writing.

What the work involves

- Ceiling hoist and sling transfers. One worker. No manual lifting.
- Dressing, bathing and personal care.
- Stoma care.

The shifts Short visits every day: a morning visit from 7.30am and an evening visit from 7.30pm, each one to two hours. About 17 hours a week across 14 visits, shared across the team. Applicants should say which visits they can commit to every week – mornings, evenings, weekends, or a mix – and the roster will be built from who applies. Once a worker's visits are set, the days and times are fixed.

Pay and engagement

- Independent contractor with an ABN, under a written service agreement. Not employment. Invoices every 7 or 14 days, paid within 14 days.
- Rates are the current NDIS price limits: $73.58/hr weekdays, $81.07 weekday evenings,

$103.54 Saturday, $133.50 Sunday, $163.46 public holidays. GST-free.
- Every visit is paid as a minimum of two hours. A one-hour weekday morning pays $147; a Sunday visit $267. Time over two hours is billed as worked, to the nearest 15 minutes. There are no travel or kilometre payments; the two-hour minimum covers the trip.
- 24 hours' notice to cancel a visit, either way. If the participant cancels with less, the worker is paid the full visit.

Essential

- Active ABN
- Current NDIS Worker Screening clearance (Queensland)
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Public liability and professional indemnity insurance
- Solid hands-on experience with ceiling hoist and sling transfers, working alone
- Stoma care experience, or willingness to be trained by a stomal therapy nurse
- Experience with spinal cord injury or high-level tetraplegia: strongly preferred
- Reliability.
- Strict confidentiality.

A Certificate III is welcome but not required. Hands-on experience is what counts.

What workers can expect

- Transparent direction and a routine that does not change without notice.
- A written support plan, a full induction, and buddy shifts before the first solo shifts.
- Respect, plain speaking, and invoices paid on time.
