Disability Support Workers – Sunshine Coast
Mental Health Experience Essential | Strong Communication and De-escalation Skills | Immediate Start Opportunities | 15–25 HOURS PER WEEK Amma’s Care Support Services is seeking experienced, reliable and engaging Disability Support Workers to support NDIS participants with mental health and psychosocial support needs across the Sunshine Coast.
Female applicants are encouraged to apply. Applicants living on the Sunshine Coast or within approximately 30 minutes’ driving distance of the support location are encouraged to express their interest. The specific suburb and available shifts will be discussed during screening.
We are looking for workers who can build positive relationships, engage participants in meaningful conversation and provide calm, consistent support.
Successful candidates will be offered 15–25 hours per week.
Participant-Specific Communication and Support Requirements
These roles require strong communication, active engagement and demonstrated mental health support experience because of the participants’ individual support needs. Applicants must be able to communicate clearly in English, listen attentively, initiate and maintain respectful two-way conversations, and adapt their communication to the participant’s understanding and preferences.
The participants require workers who are patient, approachable and actively involved throughout their shifts. Workers must also recognise signs of distress, use appropriate de-escalation strategies and follow individual support plans and escalation procedures.
Communication skills and practical support capability will be assessed individually during recruitment.
General care experience without relevant mental health support experience is not sufficient for these positions.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Mental health support: Demonstrated hands-on experience supporting people with psychosocial disability or complex mental health support needs.
- De-escalation: Practical experience recognising early warning signs, responding calmly to distress and using appropriate strategies to reduce escalation.
- Communication and engagement: Clear spoken and written English appropriate to the role, strong listening skills, meaningful conversation and accurate documentation.
- Person-centred practice: Ability to follow individual support and behaviour support plans, respect participant choice, maintain professional boundaries and provide trauma-informed support.
- Reliability: Consistent attendance, qualified communication with the team and availability that can support continuity of care.
Experience in supported independent living, in-home disability support and community access is highly regarded. A Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Mental Health or a related field is also highly regarded. Please apply only if you have relevant mental health support experience and practical communication and de-escalation skills.
Commencement
Start as soon as possible, subject to screening, compliance clearance and induction. Successful candidates will be offered 15–25 hours per week.
